this is exactly what i have been researching for. i am in the middle of a basement bathroom project, DIY: adding a shower and a bathtub to an existing shower rough-in pipe. I really did not want to have to break into the concrete to run the tub drain to the shower drain. i had an idea of doing a raised tub floor for the drain, and your video helped tremendously. Thanks!!!

For what I understand, the elbow piece is to stop the sewer's fume from reaching the surface. Like many basements, I do have an open drain, which will allow water to drain off the basement's floor in case of water issue. Why can I just install a low profile L shape and run direct to where the drain is, and close up with a box? My preferred location is apprx 6 feet from the drain.

Thank you! I know this isn't best practices, but sometimes you can't avoid doing something like this...I may have to go this route. How high did your shower base end up being, I know people mention it can be a safety hazard stepping in and out!

people who mention safety hazard are being idiots. How about bath tubs? more than 50% of people have bathtubs in their home which is min 18" high and they use a tub to take their shower. It is not a safety hazard then? or it becomes such a safety hazard when you raise the shower only 5"

This is a very basic question because I just dont know. I have been wanting to do this and add a clawfoot tub to the basement laundry room. I do not want to have to breakout concrete. I have a washer and dryer with a drain tub, and a sump pump with opening in concrete for pump. Could I make the plumbing work? where would I drain the water to? I know this prob sounds dumb but I wanted to know if this is possible. the video you made looked exactly like what I had in my head, but did not show where you would connect drain pipes next.

In this project the drain went to the main stack by adding a Y just 1" above the floor.

You need treated when connecting to concrete

If you have the hight sure but if you have a South Philadelphia home with main drain 1foot off floor leaving the basement you don't have room for a platform

Looks like your wall has water problems. Probably should have put in a trench and sump first

Can you add a toilet with a raised floor as well??

That totally depends where the sewer line is. I can't tell if you can or not.

Use an upflush toilet. I am about to install one myself in my basement. I have seen them work and they are great
