Hello Kris, great video. I know there is a way to have pv command to type sinlge character at a time. I just forgot how to do this, would you know how? Thanks, Rogelio

Has pv been replaced with something else? I don't find it in the Arch repos.

It's in the community repo currently.

Here's an example that does shows % complete (it's hard to think of a use case): pv some_big_file.tgz > /media/my_usb_key/some_big_file.tgz You have to repeat the filename, but since you know bash you can just make it a shell script / function. Slightly unrelated: did you know rsync has a --progress option? I found that while investigating pv. Completely unrelated: check out zsh, it might inspire you, (google zsh last shell ever need)

Can you piggy-back off processes with pv to see progress? Say you started a large file copy without the pv pipe and later wanted to see progress without interrupting the copy progress, can you use pv to view status of a process?
