Two basic concepts in aikido are those of grounding and uprooting. In grounding, the defender redirects the attacker's force back through the attacker's body. In essence, the attacker is forced to lift the person whom they're attacking. The attacker has the feeling of heaviness and immobility. In uprooting, the defender redirects the attacker's force upward. The attacker has the feeling of being light, on their toes, and off balance. Using a two-handed shoulder push, I demonstrate an exercise to help feel these two concepts. Visit us on the web at aikidocenter.tripod.com/
