I love the concept but even more so you have just the right amount of explanation for me to understand without me feeling dumb so thank you for sharing. I am totally loving the hand stitching as well you’ve inspired me to to definitely hand stitch some panels.

thank you!! at 66 years of age,I am starting my sewing career by doing exactly this. by hand and scraps. I am loving it. although I have a bit of a problem. I start off random and haphazard,which I like,then I become symetrical and even. don't quite know how to stop myself forming a straight pattern. been too symetrical all my life.a little crooked will not hurt me.

I forgot to add, I wish we quilters could lose the word “crazy” quilt. I know why it’s called that but it’s such a wonderful work of art I find the words “crazy quilt” demeaning. Maybe artful, or perhaps artistic, something else.
@lorrainewilliams7896
4 жыл бұрын
"To the Victorians the word "crazy" not only meant wild but also broken or crazed into splinters; " www.womenfolk.com/quilting_history/crazy.htm "The displays shown at the Japanese pavilion of silk-screened work and Japanese pottery with a cracked-glaze inspired the American audiences. Similar aesthetics began to show up in Crazy Quilts, including unique patterns, and stitching that resembled spider webs and fans.[2]" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crazy_quilting "The first use of the word crazy, to describe a random, asymmetrical pattern in needlework was in the "Cultivator and Country Gentleman" in 1878. It referred to an embroidered canvas cushion, to be passed among friends." www.caron-net.com/featurefiles/featmay.html

This is wonderful! My grandmother made beautiful quilts by hand when I was a little girl. I remember her at church, sitting around a HUGE table with a lot of other ladies and they would all work on the same quilt. It was amazing, some of the quilts she/they made. That was 50 years ago or so, so I don’t really remember the how of it all. Today everything is done by machine, so fast. Seems like some of the art is lost in the machine. This is a treasure, thank you! Sweet music also. 💕

I am so glad that I noticed your channel. My great grandmother sewed crazy quilts by hand using fabrics from suits and dresses of her ancestors. I inherited and eventually lost 2 of her quilts which caused me no end of regret. I often thought about making one, but had no idea of how they were done, except for a short explanation by my grandmother many years ago. I have some sewing projects on-going and am saving all the scraps. All I need now is the muslin. Thank you.

You can use polyester, but it is more difficult to stitch thru and doesn't mix well with other types of fabrics. A lot of modern fancy fabrics are polyester and I've seen some fabulous quilts made entirely with them!
