Nice overview. A few comments........grass hay is very good for helping the horse stay warm in the colder months of the year. I saw a bucket hanging on the fence in one of the corners of the dry lot. If two or more horses are in that dry lot at the same time that corner placement of the bucket can be a choke point and a horse can get trapped in that corner if a higher horse tells the lower horse to move. Grooming where the horse is eating.................many times it is not an issue. But, sure enough, when I do it, the wind kicks up and the loose hair and debris falls into the hay the horse is eating. So that is why I stopped grooming where a horse is eating. Thanks for your good information.

They only pressure in the Nose is the pressure you cause! If you can’t ride a horse with soft hands don’t ride. Bridleless is better for your horse and if your horse doesn’t like it he doesn’t like a bit either. It’s the riders fault on the pressure with a bridle less since you probably can’t ride don’t talk.

a pretty basic list for new people wanting to own a horse someday, these are just things you can look more into! -of course you'll need feed fit to your horse -treats of course! -you'll need to find a vet, farrier, chiro, etc. -for their stall youre gonna need shavings or pellets for bedding -youre also gonna need a wheelbarrow & pick for cleaning the stall -i would recommend purchasing three rugs, a waterproof one, a chilly weather one, as well as a fly rug for the summer -youre gonna need atleast two halters, an extra incase your main breaks -a leadrope for grooming supplies-- -curry comb -stiff brush -hoof pick -face brush -mane & tail comb -braiding bands -sweat scraper -shampoo&conditioner -show sheen/super shine/some leave in conditioner for detangling -fly spray!! tack if youre going to ride-- -a saddle of course -a saddle pad (or many) -a bridle (& bit if you use one) -reins -a girth/cinch -some boots for support

Thank you, this really did help me. I used to have 2 horses, the first one was a girl and she was perfect but she died of old age and the second horse I bought 6 years later and he literally had a Mohawk😂 but my mom didn’t think it was a good idea to keep him because he didn’t do good with crowds or loud noises and always bit everyone, so my mom sold him and made sure he went to a good home, and he did. Some horse trainers wanted him. So as y’all can see, I haven’t had a horse for over a year and don’t know much about what they NEED. I clicked on this video because my mom said that I can have one more horse (which I just only want one horse) but I have to pay for everything; the horse, horse needs, saddle, and even treats (yes there are treats for horses if y’all do not know that already) and I believe that I can do it, I know it will take time but I really want a horse and I can wait. Hi, I'm thinking of renting some land in Texas to a person who wants to keep two horses on it, while they live in an RV. I live nearby in a house. My question is will the horses or horse manure attract a lot of flies to the area? and if so how do you control the flies in the yard? also how much water do horses need everyday?
@MTHorses
4 жыл бұрын
777dingo yes, flies come with horses. We use a lot of repellent powder in the barn, spray, and we get fly predators to try and control them. As for water, about 5 gallons per horse a day is a pretty safe measurement.

Do you have any advise for training a horse to go bitless? It might just be that she needs more experience, but I started training my horse to ride bitless (just a halter) And she's pretty good. When I try to ride her in an open area, she's under control, but she's very forward and doesn't listen to me too well. I can't afford a bitless bridle so that's out of the question. I only get to ride her once a week due to lack of time, but will be able to go to the barn more once I get my license.

I would try applying a hackamore that is similar to the bit she’s used to. If she usually rides in a leverage bit, find a leverage hackamore that will apply the pressure in a similar way. Sometimes when they first start they will try to take advantage, so you may have to start with a hack that has more leverage and pressure points until you can work your way down to just riding in a bosal or halter

as a person who loves horses but has never owned a horse i have a question, is using a bit ethical if you're new at riding and dont fully know how to steer your horse yet?
@MTHorses

Isabella Anderson The question is how your taught. If you dont know anything about horses and dont know better than to use a bit, then no. Because there is always room for change. However, if you know the effects of a bit, the pain they cause, and how unnecessary they are, and still chose to use one, then yes. If a total beginner is riding a horse that ‘has’ to use a bit, they shouldnt be on it.
