Great video. I picked up a few lawns this year to see if I liked the business and now I plan on hitting it hard next spring. Your business philosophy matches perfectly with what I had in mind for starting and growing my business. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate being able to see someone who’s doing it this way and that it’s actually working. Thanks for being so transparent with your business. It’s really helped me a lot. Best of luck in the future.

I have been watching you for years now, I have this exact set up. Bought my Gravely brand new hoping to avoid breakdowns for the first year or two. 250 hours blew a main bearing, 500 hours now blowing smoke oil out of exhaust. I love it as a mower but its getting expensive. Hopefully it takes a break from breaking down for awhile now.

@Florida Turf Pros do you have any issues with the prostance spitting debris out the Front of the deck? I put a quik chute on mine and when I mulch leaves it blows alot out of the front of the deck.
@FloridaTurfPros
2 жыл бұрын
You should not have an issue with that... I would say make sure you are using high lift blades to suck leaves to top of the deck. I prefer the high lift gator mulching blades during leaf season. The only other thing is the deck baffles may be set too high. Check to make sure they are low enough to be even with the bottom of deck or slightly lower... You may be having leaves escape because baffles are too high... Easy fix.

Hey thanks for the video! So you prefer the trailer set up as opposed to the ranger set up for mowing? I saw your reply that the ranger is now a hedge trining truck which sounds good. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on how the ranger worked out as a mowing set up and how you came to decide on changing it to a hedge trimming set up?
@FloridaTurfPros
5 жыл бұрын
serodriguez1990 The ranger went down for repair and I had to buy a small trailer and we have just stuck with that. I think the truck bed setup is great. If I had it to do over again I would opt for a bigger truck with more space to do a custom build on. It’s still something I will do in the future, it was just cheaper for me to quickly get into another setup this way.

You seem as though you've got it dialed in, but to your point regarding "guys rolling down the road with $50k worth of equipment and mowers...and you don't have to do that". Well, yeah you do if you don't want be pigeonholed within the industry. You've already admitted as much by marketing ONLY what you can handle. You could never bang out or "crush" 100 accounts per week with that rig if your accounts had any size to them. Time is money and a 36" mower just isn't as productive as 52 or 60" mower on bigger accounts. Further, you have no room on that trailer for redundancy in the event of breakdown. If your mower shits the bed, you're done for the day. Being a minimalist is great until it bites you in the butt or you realize how many larger commercial properties and opportunities you've let slip away. If that's your niche then that's great, but if you're looking to break out of the cookie cutter small lawns then you need a bigger trailer with multiple pieces of equipment. Nice video and best of luck to you!

Nice video. An item for thought, rather than two line trimmers and a combi unit for the edger and hedge trimmers, I'd recommend one line trimmer, one edger and a combi system. You could leave an articulating (or whichever works best for your jobs) hedge trimmer on it with a back up trimmer unit in the tool box. A question, how long has that zoysia been down in your yard? I've thought about using it here in Tampa but I've yet to see a zoysia lawn that looks good after five years. Maybe it's too hot and humid here for too long. Anyway, your yard looks great

Is the 580T Echo blower comparable to the Stihl BR600? I went with the Stihl 600 for the same reason...light weight and plenty of power for residential lawns. The big difference I noticed you mention is that the 580T was only $350. The Stihl BR600 is $500. I may consider switching to Echo to keep my cost down. Does anyone know how they compare?

my only suggestion is to run dual Kombi system (meaning 2 powerheads). That way if one fails, the other unit can be used to finish the route for the day or even a week. You just have to switch the attachments. Not ideal, but it gives ya a little back up. That's been my set up. I also have a 5x10 as our starter set up, one blower/rack, and the Green touch rack system to hold the two stihl Kombi units, one wiht edge, one with trimmer. The last thing I like to have is a handheld blower. Again, back up unit, and sometimes having the extra blower helps finish out the yard when running 2 person crew. Nice job on the landscape Btw...nice curves and balanced layout.

I needed to see this. I came into a little bit of money and was going to reinvest with a bigger trailer and another zero turn. After seeing this and the other video on running your assets wide open, I have chosen not to do that and to use the same set up I have for one more year. Mine looks very similar to that, two trimmer racks that hold the blowers also my 42 inch zero turn that I patterned after your set up with your hustler. And a 5 x 8 mesh side trailer. That gets me into tight spots and is easy to park in a parking lot if need be. There’s really no reason for me to purchase more equipment, I guess I just wanted to look like the rest of the guys. If I plan on buying equipment the following year it will be a carbon copy set up so that I can try to get multiple crews going . My 42 inch zero turn gets me into any gate that I encounter. And this big enough to knock out decent size yards quickly. Once again thanks for another video it was great content. I really like the tour you gave us it’s like you were personally walking us around your property. Everything looks great.

Homeadvisor is definitely a SCAM. Big time SHADY. I used vista print for my marketing materials they always offer 30,40,or,50% off. Postcard stamps were 32 cents each I think. I used google maps for my target neighborhoods. Addressed them all by hand. Typically you can expect 1-3% returns, so you want to put out at least 1000 to get 20-30 new clients. Door hangers are much more affordable and probably get thrown in the trash less than post cards. Put them on the door, wear a safety vest so you look like amazon, that way nobody gives you a hard time. Once you get one of these clients, door hang the whole street once a month. All of this advice, I learned from Fla. Turf. Very effective on a budget. Think about it as marketing smartbombs.
