Been using logic for 15 years and never knew about pre fader metering! Doh! This is why I love logic always learning something new! Thanks for the video

SO IMPORTANT!. I've been fighting with Logic for years never knowing about this absolutely fundamental capability in the product. I've spent so MUCH time learning to become a better mixer and mastering the entire Izotope suite of products and dozens of Waves and other plug-ins (which has taken years) to get the best sound, never realizing there is an extremely import "First Step" that can make your life so much easier down the road. Thanks for sharing this and thanks to Google for showing me this video in a search result, otherwise I'd never have figured this out because Logic doesn't make accessing this capability easily intuitive and there is no mention f this in any "Starter" literature provided. Why Apple hid this capability from plain sight is beyond my comprehension. But after following your instructions I levelled every track in a song with several dozen tracks and suddenly the entire project became manageable. What an amazing difference this makes. Thanks again!

For me, I'd avoid putting a gain plug in on the master bus to get a higher output. I'd send the stereo bounce to mastering with that 9dB of headroom intact. Let mastering boost the level.
@nepntzerZer
3 жыл бұрын
yeah same even if you do your own makeshift masters to play out -9 is a good level to play with, especially when you want to stack limiters and comps. everything else in this vid is pretty awesome though. i was scratching my head with some of the other methods on youtube, they are more geared towards working with audio.

Hey nice beginner tutorial -- straight and to the point! I use this same concept in Traktor. All the levels of the songs are set to +/- zero and the master output is set to - 6. These settings give me a + / - zero reading on the input faders and + / - zero on the master output of my mixer. These are the perfect settings to get maximum sound out of my PA system.
