Отрывок из фильма Барбары Листер-Синк "Фортепианная техника - Освободи птицу из клетки" (B. Lister-Sink - Piano Technique. Freeing the Caged Bird). Выработка навыков правильного звукоизвлечения и верной постановки рук.
Absolutely Amazing! Any comment that insinuates something different is the sign that the precious didactic aspect is not grasped at all. Thank you so much Mrs. Lister-Sink for your precious teachings. Kind regards :)

It is just this sort of repellent comment that sets the keyboard world back and denigrates the work of so many people who are trying to help keyboardists not develop injuries from playing.

No, this was in 1996 when I made the video. And, as I said in response to another insinuating remark about touching, this is a carefully trained way of helping the student become more aware of the relative state of tension in the muscles. My pedagogy students are trained in how to use it sparingly and professionally. Parents have to sign a consent form, as well, and the video camera is always rolling.

Teaching by professional tactile guidance is an established way to help students sense the state of the arm muscles. It has been used for decades in the Russian School of piano training to guide students to learn to release unwanted muscle that can build up in the forearms and lead to injury. This aspect of teaching is neither gay nor straight, but a carefully trained way of teaching. The tactile guidance of Alexander Technique instructors is similar.

If one of my students' parents complained about this sort of "touching" I'd tell them to gtfo of my studio. Learning to play this instrument involves using more than just your ears, and the feelings can't be merely described. Try telling a 7 year old about transferring weight from your arm into the keybed and see how interested they are, you have no choice but to use "touching" to get them to hold their arms/hands properly

It is only Tai Chi in that it is about balance and flow of movement. The principles of the Alexander Technique are interwoven throughout the Method.

This is a very serious business in teaching. The technique is called Professional Tactile Guidance and I train all of my pedagogy students in how to use it. It is similar to the Alexander Technique guidance by touch to help the student become aware of the state of his or her arm muscles. By the way, the studio doors have windows or the video camera is running throughout the entire lesson. Parents are also present with children with this sort of teaching.

This is the video everybody needs to see including myself. Getting your arms and fingers to work efficiently without stress and would allow you to play more complex arrangements. The problem starts when a lot of pianists feel they need to press hard to get a loud sound and gets the arms and hand muscles to tighten...

I like your methods barbara. I wish I could afford to have you as my piano teacher, besides I live in UK. I don't like modern ways of looking at things and sometimes life in general. Their insinuations comments I couldn't help notice below are perverse. They will argue like someone drunk just for sake of it.

This is a wonderful question! In short- this relates to organ playing in a sense that one will still possess a release mechanism. In other words, one should not continue to apply pressure into the key upon contact (even in legato playing). Even though we do not free fall at the organ, we are still experiencing this wonderful sensation of freedom as our arm works as a whole unit. If this does not answer your question, please write back and I will forward it to Ms. Lister Sink.

How do you support the arm in the torso? Notwithstanding, how do you support the transfer of your arm weight from the torso to the thigh? This has been plaguing me for years as I am basically self taught and none of my college instructors said anything about it. Which is probably why I have been told by doctors that I have carpal tunnel, DeQuervain's tendonitis and I should quit playing and have surgery.

Hello, All the energy has to go to the fingers and keys. But we don't play with all the weight. We minimise the agressivity of a heavy hand with a good bridge and totally free muscles. Leave Your hands in a position like when you are walking and then try to exercise on the table with your palm and after 8 minutes with all the fingers. You were waiting 9 years for an answer. I have nothing to do with this video.

this totally looks gay, but probably reduces muscle tension. i dont use this technique and I tense up when i play, and do experience fatigue after practising for more than 1hour and ive noticde ive developed essential tremor in ring ringer and pinky.
