You have improved so much. The equitation you learned from showing is helping you so much. Love your new instructor! A couple of suggestions. Your shoulders are getting a little behind the vertical (leaning back) in your downward canter transitions. Leaning back is actually a driving aid. It makes the horse go faster. If you don't post the trot into canter, you'll have to slow his trot in order to canter and he'll better balanced immediately. If you keep your circles to a third of your beautiful ring, your pony will be less likely to hurry because he can't accelerate down the long sides of the arena. Please check with your instructor to make sure these suggestions will work for you and your pony. And lastly, don't sell him! He will be a great games pony for pony club when you outgrow him for other competitions.

The best advice. Have your dad screen your comments. He can tell you the ones that are uplifting. As for helpful suggestions in the comments, you and your dad will gain more knowledge by asking questions of your instructor about whether you should follow any of the comments given. In the horse world, as you probably already know, there are varying opinions on everything. One really fun thing to do is look at videos of people riding all around the world. Some people are trained to ride with their toes down!

I'm sorry, but she's too big for that horse. Her horse should be bigger. Don't care what anybody says. When I was her age, a had a full sized quarter horse with no experience and I managed great. There's girls younger than her riding bigger horses.

Don't know his breeding, but he sure looks like he's got some hackney in him with that trot. Will have to slow down to place in most pleasure classes, but Lily's equitation is really looking good and she seems much more confident on this pony who is fast, but responsive and not belligerent. I think they will learn a lot together before she outgrows him.

Hey Lily, you’re becoming such a equestrian woman! A little thing I noticed do not let blaze walk off on you when you are getting on. They need to be trained to stand there without moving until you tell them to go. I’m sure your trainer can help you with this.

Lilly, I am so proud of you. I've seen SOOOO much improvement. There are things your trainer is doing that *I* wouldn't be doing, but I'm not going to go into that. Instead I want you to know how much improvement I am seeing in you. You are so much more confident and your seat has improved immensely. Confidence is so important for a rider. It can place you in the "Alpha" position which makes your horse much more comfortable doing what you are asking. Since you have so much of what you learned on video, be sure to review it from time to time. You may see areas where you are slipping over time. You have also learned, and are properly using your seat to control your horse. I haven't seen your trainer say this so I will give you this visual. Your seat is like a gas pedal in a vehicle -- and I KNOW you know how to drive! Think of your seat like the gas pedal, the more you move forward (push down on the gas pedal) in your seat the more you are asking the horse to move out and possibly into the next gait. The more you sit back the more the horse should slow down. Have you ever watched a western reining class where the horse stops and slides? Look at a video and notice how far back the rider is sitting (and how far forward the legs are). It's the same when you are backing up. Don't think, "I don't need to watch that, I ride English." You can learn from either discipline as the basics are the same. So much improvement in a short time is the be applauded. I would call this a win-win for both you and for blaze!

Blaze has a lot of potential. In due time his head will come down along with back muscle getting built up and his neck will do the same. I would love to see how big of a jump he has. Once he gets his confidence built up and Lilly and him form as a team, they will do great in pony club and lower level eventing. I think he is going to love stadium jumping. Dressage may be a challenge at first but he is so willing and flat work is all bases for jumping and dressage work.

Use your voice commands first then seat and leg then hands last. Working her and the pony on a lunge line, without reigns will help her to learn to ride with your seat. Your pony is so cute and seems very willing to learn. Ponies are sassy and quick and will keep you on your toes.
