Thanks for this clear demo. A good balance between descriptions and playing, and it's good that you've kept the riffs short in length to allow easy comparison between the two guitars. I wish more demos were like this.

So that sounds like a really good comparison. I'd say it's a matter of your playing style and preference. The jag bass had more mids presence and honk, but they did not nearly have as much full bottom end as the Epiphone. But I personally do love the middle position of the single coil basses (mainly jazz basses), and the Squier certainly got there for me.

I don’t know how the scales look in person. But I saw a massive difference in the neck length, the Epiphone 34 inch looks massive (my usual guitar is a Epiphone Les Paul standard, so used to smaller neck guitars anyway haha) Good looking, but Squier wins price-wise Soundwise - with plectrum, the epiphone sounded better and warmer, Without the pickup, the normal 3 positions at the start. I couldn’t tell a difference in the sound I think if I would try bass, I would get the Squier. Because of the neck size mostly and the price. Both sounded good but Epiphone a little better only when playing with a plectrum. But without one you’re good either way 👍👌🌙

Guess my ears are different than many people. If you want the mid boost presence play guitar...but a bass should sound like a bass so I prefer the lower end of the EPI. I can get the Squier sound from my LP and to an extent from my PRS is I use heavy stings and back the tone down. I am a guitar/sax/keyboard player that wanted an affordable bass for my studio. But I want it to handle the lows. Plenty of mids and highs with my other gear.

The Epiphone with flatwound strings would give the Squier a run for the money. Can't compare the two with different strings. Epiphone your using has roundwound strings. Not one put roundwound on EB3 in the ,1960' went it was popular.
