The original Green Hornet show car was on display @ the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles for many years. One of the interesting aspects that separates it from the replicas are the 2 brooms, one mounted above each back tire. When lowered into place they obliterated the Black Beauty's tire tracks. Robert Petersen's 1st museum was on Hollywood Blvd. a block north of Grauman's Chinese Theater, and named CARS OF THE STARS.

This one is missing the 2 pipes which stuck out the back, which were for creating an oil slick. Originally, the Batman TV show was to be shot in B&W, so the original striping was done in white. I learned this from the guy who worked for George Barris and did it. Then they decided to shoot it in color, so the striping had to be redone in red. The 5 original TV Batmobiles were painted in a dull black because reflection wasn't a good idea to be filmed and it would look shiny on camera anyway, without reflection. I guess that it is now years ago, but I met George Barris at the SEMA Show in Vegas. It was the first showing of the restored Monkeemobile and the restored Batmobile #2, made of fiberglass from molds made from Batmobile #1. There were 3 more completed and Barris had atleast 2 more uncompleted shells stack up in back of his shop. Batmobile #2 and the Monkeemobile were restored by the same restoration shop near Sacramento and I met the couple who owned the restoration shop at a local Autorama show on #2's first tour. Their next project was going to be Batmobile #1, which George Barris kept in his possession since he created it. Possibly, this Batmobile replica was made from one of those extra unfinished molds that Barris made?

@@Dude101p It's great when you actually get to meet and talk to the people who built these special cars! It's also been said that the first Batmobile had a top speed of only 25 MPH. It's hard to believe, but, built from the Lincoln Futura, it was made to be a show car and only driven in and out of an event. That's probably why they built 4 fiberglass stunt cars.

This batmobile, which he said was a replica made from molds taken off of the original, is probably from the Fiberglass Freaks shop. They made their own molds from the original car and they are actually licensed by DC to build the replicas. Three of the original cars (2, 3 and 4 if I recall) were mostly used for promotional tours to malls etc. Since people kept touching them and leaving finger prints on the paint jobs, they were covered in black felt while on public display. A batmobile covered in felt, could you possibly get more 1960's than that? :)
@Rigel_Chiokis

@@automatedelectronics6062 As far as I know, George Barris rebuilt the engine, drive train and suspension of the 1955 Futura so it was actually driveable. Car #5, the primary stunt vehicle, was actually a metal car according to an old interview I read somewhere.

The original TV “Green Hornet” show was on ABC for 1/2 hour starting at 7:30 on Friday nights. It was followed by “The Time Tunnel”, a one hour show which also lasted only one season. I’m disappointed to hear that they trashed 25 1966 Imperials in the making of the 2011 movie, especially since they had (Computer graphics imaging) CGI available. Granted, CGI would not have been quite as realistic, but after having seen “The Aviator”, the 2004 biopic about Howard Hughes, movie maker, aircraft developer, and test pilot from the 1920s to 1940s, I say that CGI was good enough.
