The strongest armor Batman had against Superman was not his suit, but his friendship with Clark. He knows Clark well enough to know he would never cross that line with him. When Bruce chuckles and says "Oh, you're not going to kill me." He isn't just suggesting he will win this battle, but commenting on how silly Clark's suggestion was that he had it in him to kill him.

Superman fanboys really like to do mental gymnastics but sure Superman is too compassionate for his own good. Hardly matters, exploiting any weakness he has is the point. Batman didn't have to drag this battle out either and could have exposed Clarke to that kryptonite in numerous ways or a more lethal dose as he pointed out. Physical strength only means so much
@HarryK-ld2ed

@@gemelwalters2942 No, Batman couldn't have exposed Superman to the kryptonite mix any other way. Batman needed Superman's guard down. When he was on his knees, Superman let his guard down and so was exposed to the kryptonite attack. I'm a Batman fan till death, but I'm smart enough to know that Batman only wins against Superman because Superman would never hurt Bruce fatally. As Batman himself once said, "Deep down, Clark's a good guy. And deep down, I'm not."

@@HarryK-ld2ed This. Batman knows no matter how physically weakened he is, when he's dialed in and fighting, Superman's sensory abilities are still off the charts, nearly bordering on sensory omniscience in a radius around him. But he's dramatically physically weakened, so while Batman couldn't BEAT Superman straight up, he could certainly do enough damage to keep Superman distracted. And someone else to deploy the synthetic kryptonite is vital; he couldn't risk the suit getting damaged in a way that made deploying the kryptonite impossible, or reveal it too early. Make Superman think he's won the fight. Hit him hard enough to make him really believe Batman's trying to win, to out-fight him, and has lost. Make Superman ask Batman to surrender. Then, and only then, when he lowers his guard and tries to talk Bruce down, will that arrow get close enough to release its payload. This is the best version of the Batman vs Superman argument. In a way, they both win and they both lose. Superman wins the fight, sure. He beats Batman in a contest of pure physical combat. But Batman won the battle; he maneuvered Superman into a losing position through the use of outside help and the right tools at the right time at the right place.

I know not everyone cared for Michael Emerson's Joker, but I really enjoyed him. For some reason, his nasally voice worked for me. The scene at the carnival with the Joker just shooting people down...yeah, it's sadly a little too realistic because of the world we live in; but this is not a criticism of the movie/ graphic novel. I love how the double entendres in the dialogue make Batman and the Joker similar to an old married couple, hats off to Frank Miller.

I always see a lot of debate on how exactly the joker died here, whether it was immediately when Batman snapped his neck and the rest was in Batman’s mind, or if Batman only broke the neck to the point of paralysis from the neck down, and joker completed it himself with sheer force of will. Both seem equally plausible and make sense for both characters and the overall narrative of their respective insanity, and both fit with the visual we see. Interested to know your thoughts on it, as I personally am for the Batman hallucination form, but I also appreciate the openness to interpretation of the scene.

In the comic book Batman does actually kill the Joker. Aside from the fact that people can't turn their own neck after being paralyzed frok the neck down, the part where joker gloats to Batman "that he made him lose control" is actually written in Batman's thought bubble color with it never actually coming out of his mouth. Essentially the whole scene in in Bruse's head, in order to make the kill not his fault. There's a lot of scenes in TDKR that illustrate his questionable sanity.

It's not really the life force, he absorbs the radiation in the grass and flowers that it gets from the sun. The only reason it decays is that he's also full of nuclear radiation. Its why if he dies and you can't get his body into the sun, bury him in a shallow grave preferably in a forest that gets a lot of sun. He'll eventually heal. So long as the body is intact and he isn't missing his head the body keeps repairing itself. It's just a slower healing factor when he's technically dead.

If you notice, both final battles of Part 1 and Part 2 have Batman win based on what TV Tropes would call a "Batman gambit." Where the hero makes a plan by gambling on the emotions or tendencies of the opponent to secure a win. He gambled that the Mutant Leader would take the obvious opportunity to escape jail, and he knew the Mutants were easily led sheep who would accept a rumored command from their boss without question. And when Batman told Superman in the fight that Supes wouldn't kill him, he was right. Superman could have easily flown through Bruce at Mach 2 and left him splattered on the pavement, but Batman figured Superman's emotional connection (plus the other weakening events) would convince Superman to hold back.

I will always love the graphic novel, as it’s the one piece of literature that vastly popularized the idea that this human dude in a batsuit could whoop anyone’s ass if given time to prep haha. A very real truth hehe, on top of the fact that he has some ridiculously powerful versions/iterations. Batman, from that comic on has now had so many broken iterations and shown how powerful his mind, skills, and resources are. People saying superman was weakened and Batman had additional help are all true, but remember Batman unlike Superman was old. On top of that Batman did not have the same resources or Allie’s as his younger years, and on top of that Superman had the military helping him. Then you can also say neither was trying to kill the other(especially Superman), so neither was going all out. I think that writing it in such a way, and adding that ambiguity(despite the batman win) is what makes this such an iconic fight. I still love it though that this fight sort of allowed other comic book writers to create iterations of batman that are considered top 50 strongest characters of all time in the dc universe. We have a normal human with god level powers and in standing with other god like beings because of this comic. Friends, resources, skill, training, and intelligence are vastly superior to any power/brute force. Batman=Broken

All the dialogue, all the scenes, all the shots and compositions mapped out for them. 4 years beforehand. Even the fkn score. And they still couldn't do it. All they had to do was visit the office down at the other end of the hall to see what a real DC film looked like.

I love going back to rewatch both part one and part two of those movie. They kill it in the Dark Knight returns and you’re right the battle between Batman and Superman made senses based on the story they tell. I love how BVS took the inspiration of this movie and novel , then they did their own creative thing with it. Some people don’t like it, which is all on them they can dislike what they want. However me and many others loved the live action representation of the Dark Knight returns movie and man watching both back to back again was awesome. In the Dark Knight Returns and BVS they made it believable for Batman to win a fight against Superman. Also by staying true to Superman character, because he wouldn’t just go up and try to kill Batman.

Why that fight between Superman and Batman worked a for a simply reason. Superman didn't want to kill Batman. Even crippling him like he did to Oliver might kill a man of Bruce's age. Weakened as he was, Superman had to hold back a lot. That's why people saying Batman can beat Superman is so ridiculous. If it was a fight with no holds barred, Superman would burn Batman to ash from orbit, because Batman is too dangerous to get close to.

Comment for the algorithm because this did not show up in my feed as it should have; I had to search it out. WTF, KZitem? Not cool. At any rate, 10 out 10 for Coy's guns and because Sundays are for DC with my sexy dads.

The "free" cotton candy scene? In the comic it was a damn Horror show because the Joker is waste the cotton candy with strychnine killing 20-30 kids. I could totally see why they dropped it from the movie.

This rendition of Batman gets a lot of flak but I honestly love it. Bruce's speech to Clark as he's slapping him around will always be one of my favorite Batman lines. And it's still awesome to see how much of this that Zack incorporated into BvS but I think if he gave it a bit, did Ben's solo Batman movie and the JL stuff and then did BvS because the history for the characters would be present, it would have gone down better.

Zack wanted to do both a solo Ben Affleck film to properly set up the character as well as a "Man of Steel 2", y'know, to properly segway into BVS...But WB executives at the time forced him to fast-track the series and jump straight to BVS. Zack could've argued, but apparently he wasn't a combative guy, and didn't want to risk being blacklisted as a director in Hollywood circles by the WB hire-ups as "difficult to work with" or "argumentative" (which is probably what would've happened imo).

This is the Batman I want to see on screen. A Batman who is superior in strength, intellect, and resources. I’m so tired of “realistic” Batman, let’s get a Batman who’s basically super human

Superman Red Son is great! And the Tomorrowverse is a new continuity that’s after the one you’re already on, so make sure to check that out after Apocalypse War.
