Been waiting for this one for so long!!!! I remember seeing the original black and white ink drawings at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco 15+ years ago & was blown away by the size of them! At the time I was studying art and felt discouraged by my fine art instructors that "comic style" art was not "art". Oh hell yes this is art, masterful amazing art!!!

I love this book. I've managed to get my hands on a deluxe edition of it last month. Dc should reprint this and also an unwrapped edition. Great insight of the comic from Jim. Thank you

I was really intrigued by this comic when I first discovered it at an import comic and collectible shop in Tokyo called BLISTER, sometime back in 2006, when I was finally starting to embrace American comics more than I had growing up. This and B.P.R.D blew my mind at the time. It was also intriguing for me to find out that Pope had spent 5 years working on projects in Japan. It inspired me to do my own thing as I was working as an assistant illustrator in a manga studio at that time. Would love to talk with him about his experiences someday and see if what he experienced was anything like what I experienced. Anyway, great book. Love it.

Got the trade after flipping thru it and loving the art. The recursive plot where somehow Batman is the same physical dude from 1939 ehhhhh. But fuck man, that art. I'd love to see an animated movie like this. Just full on Otomo cyberpunk shit with those thick splattery lines.

Thank you for this. I think "Batman: Year 100" is genius. Read it many times. The action is kinetic and electric. Batman is so well depicted, he "gets" the character, and the story is exciting and mysterious. Loved it.

This Batman mini series really threw me off my normal comic reading, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Highly recommended for great art and very different take on a classic character.

Issue 3 might be the best example of action-pacing in sequential art that I've EVER read. It flows. I remember being blown away by it the first time I read it and that feeling never left during subsequent re-reads.

A very restrained Paul Pope. It's him - but much more "straight" - but awesome storytelling. His Strange Adventures for Wednesday comics was out of this world.

Very good! I bought the bound edition that came out here in Brazil. Paul Pope is excellent. I like the idea of dressing police officers in player uniforms. This causes a certain strangeness to the reader because we know that they don't dress like that. They are the pearls of Paul Pope's universe. Thanks for this episode! Big hug!

That first page also gives us a different physical dynamic for Batman. So often we get the Neal Adams, almost sprinter pose where he’s heavily leaning forward. This Batman is running more like a distance runner. It reminds me of Adam West in some ways.

The Batman of Berlin story is something I managed to get my hands on as a wee lad. A lot of it went over my head at that age but if nothing else the art still left a lasting impression.
