Mr Dog Poop demonstrates how to convert the M923A2 5 Ton military truck, (same as the Deuce and a Half but much heavier) from the 4 6TMF batteries to 2 standard 12 volt truck batteries.
The original batteries are made for war, but since we are not planning to use the truck for war, we can tone it down a bit saving us around $1500 on the new battery swap.
We do not have to relocate the batteries or spend a huge amount of time or money to make the conversion.
We bought 2 standard 12 Volt 1040 AMP truck batteries for around $150 each which at $300 total, is less than the cost of one of the original military batteries.
As you will see by the video, the 5 Ton Military truck will start fine on the new batteries and even turn over faster making starting even easier.
The new batteries are more than adequate to start the massive 8.3-liter, six-cylinder turbocharged Cummins diesel motor with 240 hp and 800 ft-lbs of torque.
Since the alternator provides all the power for lights and accessories, there is no need to have a huge battery bank, unless you are planning for a civil war. If you are, then you should replace the batteries with the original deep cycle batteries with a longer reserve.
We will show you how using the original battery cables and some inexpensive new truck batteries you can improve starting and you save a bundle of cash.
Part 2 of the video will demonstrate how to build a professional mounting bracket for the new batteries in just a few minutes.
