Golden Bat is probably the easiest character to clear with but I was kinda over not having the 1cc yet lol, will probably go back and 1cc with Bornam soon-ish.
A few notes for those who don't know Greg too well: A major portion of the run is Rank Management, this game has a Rank system that increases the difficulty as you play, based on what you do. Things like higher Autofire rate will increase how much rank you get per frame. Things like grabbing extra items you don't need, things like having 4 Options, special Options, etc, will increase your rank much faster than if you didn't grab or have those things. Rank effects amount of bullets shot, the rate in which those bullets are shot, enemy HP (including bosses, normal enemies, and even destructible bullets).
Another specific note is that Dying decreases your rank, and you get the most rank decrease from death if you have less than 3 stocks when you die. So usually, for a good majority of the first half of the run, you want to intentionally sacrifice a stock right before you hit your 3rd stock (every 1 million points). I had INSANELY high rank by the end of this run, much higher than any of my previous runs to Glow Squid, but I'm Golden Bat and Golden Bat is busted and has piercing shots so everything melts regardless.
Other than that uhhhh, Medal Chaining is somewhat important, each medal you grab and chain together (ie: not letting any medals drop off the screen) increases the point worth of the next medal, up to 10k. Bombing the environmentals also provides you with medals. The last thing to mention is Flamingos, if you bomb the Castle in Stage 2, flamingos will fly out, and if you damage them, they give you more points. In this game you wanna bomb the hell outta them because they give you a free extend practically by themselves.
Other notes are that my Stage 1 Boss (Nose Laughing) was the best I had ever scored on him on GB, primarily because I forgot he was going to time out and I killed much later than I usually do. Also had absolutely insane birds, shoulda sac'd two lives beforehand but hadn't gotten birds that good before tbh. Stage 2 Boss (Mad Ball) was Bad. There's some sorta strategy for GB to sac a life, and then use the iframes to bomb inside him and kill all the pieces of him, but I don't actually know how to do it and just wing it every time lol, this time happened to be really bad and I didn't even kill the entire outer shell, but it's not a huge deal.
Stage 3 midboss you don't wanna kill the middle turret because it starts shooting Touhou patterns at you, I messed this up and had to dodge more carefully, oh well.
Went to 12hz at MB2 (much earlier than I should have) because I had had a few runs die from going to 12hz but ending up at 15hz because of slowdown (the game reads the inputs as faster even though my bind is 12hz). High rank at the end of the run is primarily because of this, probably.
Rest of the run basically exactly how I wanted, maintained medal chain to Base, I usually have a full bomb for Wall, but didn't here, luckily I didn't feed in Base post-Wall, and was already very accustomed to regrabbing Homing Options off the Wall fragments + Tank Option. Wish my BH2 went better because I had been hitting those sidewinders perfectly in basically every run prior but he melts on GB regardless lol. Honestly getting sniped by a grenade was karma for the stupid lucky dodge I had in the section right before it. GS was awful RNG but I was already pretty used to Lighting and Explosion arms, so I just played as safe as possible.
