When I go to Gettysburg, I make it a point to stay at The Doubleday Inn which is on the battlefield. And it’s location is perfect to visit the 1st day battlefield . And the fact you have our Patron Saint JD from The History Underground watching is great. Like in the 2nd video you released on this series (out of order, I know) I am truly impressed with you videos. Keep up the great work

I stayed on the Wyndham just outside of downtown. Next time I go I definitely want to stay in town. I love JD’s work and I’m beyond humbled to have his support. Again I really appreciate the feedback. Got a more Gettysburg content on the way.

Very cool! I visited Gettysburg in 2013 but did not visit the site of the first shot. Really enjoyed your video covering the opening events of such a large scale battle!

Glad you enjoyed it! It’s a bit intimidating covering such a large and widely known battle so I did my best to try and simplify it yet make it informative.

I was only an Airman for a few years so I'm not that familiar with Cavalry lingo but what is a Vidette?
@malafunkshun8086
Жыл бұрын
My understanding of a “vidette” is that it was a picket outpost, usually consisting of a troop or squadron of cavalry, that would sentry its area of responsibility and report immediately back to their commander if they encounter significant enemy troops in their location. Videttes were a commonly called used tactic by the armies of the 19th century. They played an important role at Gettysburg, and also at Isandhlwana. Basically, any battle you can think of which required advanced knowledge of enemy troops. Hope this helps! Aloha 🤙🏼

I love your videos and how you present them. I too love walking in the footsteps of soldiers on the Gettysburg Battlefield. But for your sake and others, please don't advise others or demonstrate walking into the cut. It's illegal and subject to a fine and or arrest.

Visited Gettysburg for the first time last year and completely overlooked the railroad cut. I loved your footage of the railroad cut and explanation of how it was utilized and the outcomes. Day 1 significance and impact is too often overlooked and overshadowed by the bigger events of day 2 and 3, but you did a great job with this piece of the battle. Thank you!!!

It’s was so surreal to not only see the cut in person but physically walking in it was amazing. It’s so much deeper than you realize.
