This is a great comparison, really well-thought-out. Bitwig gets very little love in the DAW world.

Just about to switch over to Bitwig. It just nails everything. All the stuff I have to use work arounds and wait on updates just works quickly and logically in Bitwig.

Bitwig needs its GUI beautified and FL Studio needs its interface simplified.

I started to use frutty loops (FL) about 15 years ago, was an amazing idea from classic cubase, cakewalk, etc... but with years they have tried to improve the FL studio adding things over things... now it's a mess and no intuitive at all. Patterns system, windows, left menu to find vst, complicated menus to find things, ... The best part is the vst and fx that comes with it, anyway very old fashion design too... Bitwig is more intuitive, easy workflow, but pianoroll is totally simple, and I'm lost with modulators, polygrid, etc more time that I want. Bitwig is easier to create a song but you spend more time doing crazy things with sound than with melody (my case). With fl studio I'm more focused in the music, not the sound.

This was a good comparison. I went from FL to Bitwig myself about 4 months ago because the mixer/routing if FL was driving me nuts and the clip view/modulators on Bitwig just make me happy also routing makes more sense to me in Bitwig.

Yeah I definitely feel like bitwig is more straightforward when it come to overall song building.

I like your review. As you said, there are pretty clear advantages to both. I'm using Reaper, and I need to get beyond its steep learning curve to make an informed choice on daws, but this is good information. It also helps me know what kinds of tools to look for in my current daw.

I'm only at the part where you get into midi editing in Bitwig, so you might cover this. But if you click on a note, there are various functionalities, like repeats and probability which are pretty advanced. The repeat function is dope, because you can make it hella long (I think up to 30 steps) and then slide the timing so it either starts fast and eases out slowly or vice versa. But I really don't know FL studio at all, and I'm learning to see if it's a good investment to use as a VST in Reaper and Bitwig. The fact that it has lifetime updates and some insane features that you normally have to buy plugins for is a selling point. But Bitwig has it's magic so I would need both

I appreciate your feedback. I'll say it's really hard to ignore a DAW with lifetime free updates. I wish Bitwig had the same setup!

For Generative and Ambient Music, Bitwig is the best one hands down (oh yeah right there is M4L in Ableton, but it's not as funny as the Grid), Bitwig is awesome. I still prefer to use FL Studio for sample based music like Downtempo / Trip Hop. Everything else on Bitwig.
@IAmDofosho

They’re both good. It really depends on the person preference.
@Mokamusiclab

@@IAmDofoshoSure but I wanted to point out that for generative music, it's not a matter of preference though. Fl Studio, despite the great capacity of the Patcher, has not implemented a modular system. It has to go trough third party system such as Reaktor.

I think bitwig is extremely unstable still and that low latency hardware is urban legend even with rme and apollo u will need a erm clock. However if they evolve with time and feedback then it will be a solid competitor.fl is decent with hardware but it was never build for that. For someone tho who wants to stay within the box maybe max a few external synths and for someone who wants gain from a complete plugins daw then nothing beats fl and what it offers. Bitwig started as the red pill but now it kinda follows ableton path and hope they wont lost in that multiverse .
@IAmDofosho
2 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting point. l guess it all really depend on the user and what they're willing to tolerate. Latency isn't really an issue for me because I don't use external synths. But I do hope they continue to evolve and get better. I'd love to see a step sequencer!!!

@@IAmDofosho amen to that. It also alongside cubase have the best reverb in the game but b/is is modulated and that makes it extreme interesting it almost sounds like a very very expensive tube reverb. I like it. And yeah if u stick to the box if they keep evolving they have a bery bright future ahead. But they have to step it up cause cubase 12 looks massive ans the new presonus studio upgrade is very good plus the fact it costs like 12 euros monthly for the pro and 1k of plugs gift . Maybe if they were doing like a monthly sub for the non believers or a 90days free the full version like ableton ppl would come closer. There are many ppl when i tell em i like bitwig they are lime wrf is bitwig and then they dont give further attention. It needs to be evolved asap. Because is a shame to go down. It offers an ecosystem many would prefer it to ableton and needs for ppl to find out about it cause on 2022 with all this shitte going on many few in the box producers are willing to pay 400 euros. They have their daws and just upgrade with mininal or not even cost at all. So is smth the boys there need to work with
