Another well thought out review on battle rifles. A very nice collection too. Agreed the M-14 a poor choice in battle rifle.

I really appreciate your effort and honesty, even though some of the M-14 fans probably got their feelings hurt. I agree with your assessment of the ergonomics of the M-14 platform, not as good as the FAL or AR-10. Not by a long shot! Your gun safe collection must be pretty good too as I'd bet you don't keep these rifles standing in the corners or nestled under the bed... I like you to assess your favorite gun safes and what features a prospective buyer should consider when buying a safe for a collection of, at least, 25-50 long guns. This was a terrific video, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Some country should really make military weapons chambered in .404 Jeffery. It's a compact but very powerful caliber that has mild recoil compared to other calibers of the same type, and it feeds and ejects without any problems. It would be a great caliber for battle rifles, DMRs, sniper rifles and machine guns of various types.

Very well done video. History, purpose, (DMR) reliability, modularity, ergonomics, nostalgia and accuracy was all covered exceptionally well...The New AR-10- LR-308 is my preference for Civilian and or Hunting usage ..The only drawback is weight @15#'s

Yes, I hate to hear you say that about the M14, but you're fair about it. The M14/M1A can be fantastically accurate, but it takes a lot of expert work (and good loads).

DD, hunting compliance legalities aside(one member in the party had one) ,how would you rate the outstanding reliability and recoil attenuated follow up shots of an FN Scar magazine full of 180 gr Nosler Partitions,Swift A-Frames,or Barnes TSX's against a charging, dangerous, soft skin animal(Brown/Grizzly,Tiger of Kumaon, etc) compared to a traditional bolt action "stopper" rifle in 338 Win Mag, and myriad 416,458s,etc? Naturally, the superior energy delivery and greater penetration, sectional density and frontal area of the Magnums is preferable for one or two shots in a desperate, short time frame,, but what are your feelings on this? Could an FN Scar be optimized to handle the recoil impulse of said hunting loads? Would you feel seriously disadvantaged? Your comment on this campfire type chat construct would be interesting. All of your videos are uniformly superb , exceptionally researched, and enhanced by your prodigious experience. Thank you for all of your hard work. All the best, phil

Hence why it didn't have a long stint as the main rifle in the military inventory. Sure some may be used in some conflicts but I'd take a fal over this every day of the week and twice on sunday.. And I'd take a M1 Grarand over the m14 for looks also. Great video very informative. And I believe that the AR 10 is available in 338 lapua too. Have seen some that hated the scar but again you'll have that sometimes and the cost is way high for civilian purchase in the semi auto version.

I enjoyed the video. I will say I like all these weapons but the M1A is my favorite out of these but sadly I also admit it is much to be desired. But it does its job as a fun tool on the range and truck gun for the farm.

@@borkwoof696 there are several options available to stay legal, including many featureless and non-featureless configurations. California gun laws are a maze of ambiguity that is too complex for a simple post.
