Hey everyone. Sorry for the delay in getting the second chapter out. I was racing to get this finished before I went on holiday so there are probably a few errors that snuck in. Hopefully they're not too distracting. I've got a new mini-series planned for August, but we'll be back to the Third Succession War once that's finished. Cheers

Only thing that gave me a double-take was the title of the video (Mechwarrior Lord 😆). I enjoyed this video and appreciate your candid remarks about having to change the process. Overall, as someone who fell into the YT BT/MW hole via Tex a while back, these videos provide a comprehensive look at all the pre-3025 conflicts that I was not familiar with at all. So thanks and enjoy your holiday.

Loved it Sven. Don’t worry about the change in plans. I agree it’s hard to have such long jumps between days from published sources. Probably an artifact of the original sourcebook authors treating the Third War as mostly a bunch of identical raids. You have a great opportunity here that I don’t think I’ve seen any other content creator make use of yet. You’re covering the Third War…really covering it. I don’t recall any other thorough treatment of it. That war has more…zeitgeist…than any of the others. It’s stuff like Clinton’s Cutthroats like you did this episode, or the One Star Faith or the Knights of Saint Cameron. It’s the inviolate holiness of Comstar and the sacredness of technology. The vibe of the Third War is unlike any of the others. There is an air of mystery, of the numinous, of the superstitious, that none of the other eras can match.
@SvenVanDerPlank
Ай бұрын
Thank you. I hope to do it justice. Part of the problem I've had is that the information is spread out over so many sources that stuff is inevitably going to get missed when you're covering such a massive stretch of time. Suspect there'll be more than a few additions once it comes time to create the compilation video at the end of the project.

For me, at least, the Third Succession War series is a countdown to goodbye. I've always planned on reading the books in release order and my project has started, so to avoid getting spoiled when the 4th Sucession War begins I'll have to stop watching, at least until I get done with the novels. What that means for me is that I hope you take your time and don't feel rushed with this project. I love these videos - they're my favorite thing to watch on KZitem or anywhere else. Please don't feel like you have to cut any corners to get it completed sooner, I much prefer quality over speed.

Glad you’re back. Watching this video I really have to say that it’s (at least to me) difficult to really understand how much time passes and where in time we are exactly. Given that it was not a problem before it is definitely a fault of the period of the third succession war itself with how long everything is in that part of lore but it is really difficult keeping track. Three years. Man time flys fast. Already excited to see what you cooked up for this mini series.
@SvenVanDerPlank

Maybe I need to add a year counter in the corner to help people follow along. People have made the suggestion before but because I've always been discussing a relatively brief period I've dismissed it as being more trouble than it's worth.
@Raphley
Ай бұрын
@@SvenVanDerPlank Before it wasn’t necessary in my own opinion and truly more trouble then its worth because events where all in a close timeframe (as close as it gets with 30 years). That is at least my problem maybe i am alone on this.

Having seen this, I think you probably made the right decision. A lot of what's actually happening is internal stuff so focusing on only one nation's internal affairs at a time would be confusing and probably lead you to retreading things you already covered. On the subject of RCTs I find them a conceptually interesting formation. They're pretty much built for the smaller, sing world warfare of the 3rd succession war but at the same time represent probably one of the first big innovations in mech deployment since the SLDF. While both build their formations around mechs, RCTs treat them more as a part of a larger whole, having them fall back into a support role when they aren't the best tool for the job. In theory anyway.
@SvenVanDerPlank
Ай бұрын
Yeah, I'm feeling much better about the end result after the rewrite. I think I initially went for the regional focus because there are long stretches in each Housebook where we get basically nothing for 20+ years. This time it was Steiner but I was able to pick out just enough details from Kurita and Marik to give them a small mention.

44:43 In universe, the AFFS is a model of military excellence amidst a sea of mediocrity and utter foolishness. But in the games...I regularly clownstomp the absolute crap out of the AFFS because they frankly don't field much that's actually scary. (until you get into the assault mech and vehicle range anyway) Valkyries, Enforcers, Hatchetmen, and Blackjacks regularly lose wars of attrition to vehicle regiments in the tabletop. In Mechwarrior 5, it's much the same story, with most of their common mech forces being woefully underarmored and prone to ammo detonation. I now in the mid game of Battletech, I have an Atlas and a King Crab (I also have them in Mechwarrior 5), but now looking back, Battletech seems a much more easier game Mechwarrior 5, that is full of chaos and destruction, pretty fun, but can be really frustrating going blind, but both games really give you a false sense of confidence by giving powerful weapons, but if you make a mistake, you could easily lose them in the battlefield.
