My experience was similar to yours. Bauer 6" Long Throw Random Orbit D.A. Polisher. Opened up the gear housing and the grease appeared to be of average quality, good enough for this application (not particularly high temperatures, not particularly demanding gear friction). And the quantity of grease was adequate - not full to the top, but nonetheless enough to do the job when liquefied after heating up to working temperature. However, unlike you, I replaced the grease with a high quality white lithium grease. Since I had the housing open, I figured I might as well replace the grease. When reinstalling the gear holding plate, I also used a drop of Loktite Threadlocker Blue on each of the four screws holding it in place. I used the Blue (medium strength) instead of the Red (high strength) in the unlikely case that I should ever need to open the housing again.
