I ran a 1938 1/2 yd bay city shovel for the town of Unadilla,ny. in 1958 till they replaced it with a p&h 1/2 yd then ran that for many years. shovels are very hot to run in the summers and cold in the winters. the p&h was called a live system you could move it without engaging anything just move the handle back or forward it was an easy shovel to run!

Great video, I hope they spend the rest of there days in the woods or get restored and not melted down into cheap Chinese junk. I think your videos are the best great old iron. Phil

she looks like she would have been a loud cold beast to run in the winter and just as bad in the summer heat. I doubt she was built for comfort...lol

@jimbo10003 Bay City colors consisted of a red/orange colored house with the boom, dipper handle and bucket and car body painted black. If you look when I show you the name on the counterweight you can still see some of the original paint by the letters. I have also seen some restored Bay City shovels at equipment shows that are painted in different colors too.

@deeredv84 It would, but that's the problem I have with a lot of these preservation societies. If more people there actually did what we did and locate and find this old equipment, I guarantee more would be saved. Can't always expect people to come to you.

It is a pity to see an old equipment in a derelict state...Perhaps there are people who restore it to museums, etc. Damn, someone dragged off the engine:) Interesting video, thanks for the excursion!

do alot of retrofitting and this would be a great machine. a new cummins or caterpillar engine, a new style seat,a hydraulic system, new undercarriage (the thing that has the tracks) and a fresh coat of paint.

Thank you very much for the reply "PAmining" Yeah.....they all were "as rough as guts!!! Yet back then in their day, would we rather NOT have these noisy gas chambers and do the tough work of an Irish navy with a hand shovel, pick and wheelbarrow? (that's a "no brainer")
