Disappointed that someone who marched in one of the all time great corps can't be gracious and enjoy ideas of memories.... What's funny to me is how we embraced , and still do, this corps when they came out with their zany circus ,free for all show, with the crazy uniforms. Yet today we criticize DCI for the same type of show and say it's not real drum corps. Todays corps have taken it ti another level. I think if we "old timers" look at it with that perspective I think we can enjoy it.

The DIFFERENCE is that TODAY needs amplification, electronics, and an enclosed stadium allegedly designed for "acoustics that support marching bands" AND the only unit that I believe can TRULY play while on-the-run is Phantom ... today's shows are "either run around or play" NOT BOTH (and all that I mention is the Bands of America recipe) NOTHING. COMPARES. TO. A. G-BUGLE. HORNLINE. NOTHING. EVER. WILL.

The Bridgemen knew how to entertain. Back when going to a drum corps competition was actually fun and enjoyable. Todays corps shows are too much about death and are depressive to watch. I'd give anything for the Bridgment to come back and put FUN back into DCI

Can SOMEBODY have the b**ls to bring back a FULL G-Bugle line, even if JUST for ONE season, and show today's "noodlers" what a REAL hornline sounds like? Sorry to say, but using all-key "orchestral" instruments does NOT have the same GRAVITAS as a full-throated line of horns tuned in G -- ESPECIALLY on the bottom end!!! God, I miss those "PHAT" sounding horn lines -- Spirit, Two-Seven, Bayonne, Madison, Phantom -- from the 70s and 80s and 90s, and the sound got BETTER as the horns improved ... I STILL have my Spirit of Atlanta shirt from around 1982 -- the ONLY drum corps shirt I ever found that had a BARITONE pictured rather than a soprano ... RIP Bobby Hoffman and Gary Oberwanowicz ...

DCI is just weird, today. I can appreciate the excellence of the shows and performers but it has lost its appeal to the masses. It’s become art for the sake of art which always turns to crap.

I always enjoyed watching the Bridgemen every year at the 16th Street stadium. The scoring for the competitions was brutal. One misstep, a finger smudge on a horn, one off key out of all members, flags had be in total sync.etc. A 10th of a point had a major effect as to where you finished. I remember one year when the top three finishers were separated by only 5 tenths of a point. That was a lot of pressure. A friend of was in the Bugle cotp and eventually blew out his lung.

As someone who was performing on that field I can tell you acoustically it was fantastic. An enclosed Stadium creates some fullness in the brass sound. Of course - that is just my opinion. Now if you're mentioning the location and some of the things around it - well you have a valid point.

You can hear it in this recording,it's horrible, with echos.Manning bowl was the perfect venue for Drum corps.(aside from the occasional flyover noise, lol)as well as Kennedy Stadium in Bpt.,Ct.Not nearly the seating, but all good seats (not in the rafters).Listen to any World Open recordings, will blow you away!
