This was one of the first dances that I learned as a kid. It was easy to learn, as I cannot dance (thus disproving the myth that all Black ppl can dance 😝😝😝). In 1984, my teacher in elementary school taught us to do this dance and we had to perform it for a school talent show. It was fun! This video brought back warm memories. Thanks for posting!

Glad to hear your story. I firmly believe everyone can dance. In my classes, ppl who initially don't believe in themselves end up dancing and enjoying themselves. Cheers!

Every generation should know this...from 3 to 103. And there needs to be just ONE guy who wants to join in.

I'm taking physical therapy. My PT has me doing kicks to the sides, knee raises, kicks to the front, 2 sets of ten for each exercise on each leg, then when she said to do kicks to the back, I realized, hey, this is like the Alley Cat! She had never heard of it, so I used this video to show her, and she now says that at my next session she'll have it on the TV so I can do the dance to the music. :D I really love the lady in the white shirt's energy!

Glad to know the video helps. Who knows if someone doing physical therapy may have originated this dance. Now it's both fun and therapeutic. Thanks for sharing.

We used to do this in the Catskills in NY back in the 60s. It was a competitive dance. It would start out slow and get faster and faster. When a dancer couldn't keep up, he dropped out. The dance continued until only one dancer was left or the band could not play any faster. Other than the clap, I don't remember any hand or arm movements other than to help with your balance.

We also did this at Dwarkins Bungalow colony in the Catskills, NY in the sixties! We did this at every wedding and Bar Mitzvah we went to!

It's perfect for weddings to get all ages up on the dance floor.....unless your daughter puts it on the "DO NOT PLAY" band list.

Can anyone tell me what the exact version of this song is? I've searched it on Spotify but its only really bad versions. This version is the perfect line dance version with speed up.

Amazing that they found this worth doing and then actually did a video and posted it. Just about the worst piece of music ever.
