At 6:42 I see the BBC profiler fell for the entirely false claim that Archer was the youngest MP when elected. 29 was a young age to become an MP but Archer was only the fifth youngest MP when elected.

I think the person responsible for the rumour was Archer himself, although that may also be a myth I suppose.

Correct, after he committed perjury. As so often happens, it was not the original scandal that brought him down, but the attempt to cover it up.

His book(s) Kane and Abel were serialised on TV in the early summer 1986. My folks watched it,I didn't. At the previous year's Conservative Party Conference,he was in the right wing tabloids joining in that lazy criticism of all young people as "workshy". As someone trying to start my career,I resented that kind of thing deeply.

1:35 - Tebbit hated Archer in private. He did not want him appointed deputy chairman of the party, and knew something like this would arise soon than later. And he was right. Tebbit maybe a true Tory scumbag, but at least he knew what Archer was. Sadly it seems in his older years, he has softened his attitude toward Archer. No surprise there for Tebbit.

Norman Tebbit was a viciously nasty character whose contempt for working class people might never have had the opportunity to cause harm if not for Thatcher coming to power. There are many examples of this in history. Separated by only several hundred miles and a few decades, another such individual wrought barbarity on a scale that Tebbit could only dream of. Two years before this news bulletin,Tebbit was caught in the Brighton bombing, and became embittered by his wife's resulting disability, but instead of dealing with the tragedy in a mature way as the rest of us have to do, he continued a lifestyle in which he brought harm and suffering to others, never understanding that bad deeds contribute to bad consequences. Some of the world's faiths call this Karma. Norman Tebbit was too much of a thug ever to understand the concept.

Archer lying to his party and them doing everything to pretend they believe him. He then lied in court then out of court then lied in prison then out of prison and still lies all backed up by his wife. The party of law and order! He then went on to steal clothes from a New York store which was the exact same store his father had stolen clothes many years before. Not much of a peep out of either of him or her these days. Maybe it's taken this long to come to their senses - somebodies senses.
