3:50 I used to eat lots of pizza, bowls of pasta and down a bottle of Thunderbird wine...while listening to the Robbie Vincent Show on Radio 1 each Sunday. Now I listen to Radio 4 over a cup of tea, with shortbread biscuits.

I remember this. I recall it as the decline of Radio 1 and the rise of Radio 2.

Neither Bruno nor Adrian went to radio 2 alas but of course steve did I'm march 1996 onwards. Whereas Gary Davies left r1 in December 1993 and did not go to r2 until 2017 indeed too. Bob Harris and johnnie walker did along with Simon mayo as well

Whiley... Mayo... Evans... Has anyone noticed how Radio 2 has now become mid-90s Radio 1? Mike Harding even got "Bannistered"

Matthew Bannister would have got a brick thru his face had I been Steve Wright, nobody orders me around and tells me what I can and can't play on my own show...

at 6.50, the guy states he was trying to bring in fresh talent to Radio 1 and make it more youthful....and it just struck me: WHY? Those "Old Fogey" DJs...had audiences in the tens of millions!! WHY did THEY want Audiences of just 7 million?? If it ain't broke....!! My opinion: Bannister and his accomplice were working for commercial radio, all of which was struggling against Radio 1 and Radio 2. One could say...they did their job well.

That's just how it goes. Once you're too old and/or fat for Radio 1 you go to Radio 2. They even have Trevor Nelson and Your Actual Dave Pearce now, for heaven's sake.

Yes he did, It was called "Too Much Gravy" and it ran from March 1992 to September of that year. Apparently The then R1 Controller Johnny Beerling wanted to offer Chris a full time show on the station. But Chris said that they tried to onstrain his style, preventing him from using the "zoo" format, allegedly because Steve Wright was already doing that on the station.

Adrian had been there since 1978 so he had been there long enough and he didn't seem to move to another station

@shine350 What the hell is so 'talented' about DJs like Evans and Moyles?! All they do is play records and talk crap. That's not talent.

Whilst I'm interested in the story I'm finding the over dramatic style of the documentary a bit annoying.

Radio DJs, the epitome of egotistical - sitting in a room talking to themselves believing that they make a difference to people’s lives. Is it any wonder that streaming services are so popular?

@hdsport82 'difficult' is not equal to 'almost impossible'. That's what BBC DGs and channel controllers get their fat paychecks for; to defend the BBC from politicians, especially tory ones. Yes, change was needed and was overdue but evolution not revolution required.
