Former IBF welterweight champion Joshua “Grand Master” Clottey (39-4, 22 KOs) took time off from his busy training schedule to speak to Bukomboxingnews.com reporter Daniel David Quartey ahead of his upcoming bout against America’s Gabriel Rosado (21 -9, 13 KOs) on the 19th December, 2015 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, New York.
BBN: Welcome to Bukomboxingnews.com, Joshua.
JC: Thank you.
BBN: You will be fighting on the 19th December, how are gearing up for that fight?
JC: As you can see I’m preparing well because it’s going to be a tough fight, but I will be ready waiting for him.
BBN: How well do you know your opponent (Gabriel Rosado)?
JC: I don’t really know him but I know his name. He has fought with top fighters and he has lost to tough fighters and it means he is a tough boxer too so I’m not going to underrate him.
BBN: Per the arrangement, you will be fighting catch-weight. Are you ready for that?
JC: I want to prove a point. In boxing if you get the opportunity you have to take it, so I will be going there to fight and he is going to come out to fight me so I will be ready for him.
BBN: Two years ago you were billed to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez but it was called off. Are you still ready to fight him?
JC: I’m always ready for Canelo, because I believe in my quality. I have never seen anything good thing coming from him. Though he is a good fighter but I have never seen anything good about him. I’m always prepared to fight Canelo.
BBN: What are your thoughts on the Cotto-Canelo fight?
JC: I will go for Cotto because he is an experience fighter. When you fight him he always makes you smart in the ring because he know when and how to adjust himself when he is losing.
BBN: Do you believe you will be in line for a title shot against the winner?
JC: I believe I will get a world shot. Previously I was negotiating with (WBA junior middleweight champion) Erislandy Lara’s team for a world title shot. The contract was about to be signed but his team said I’m too tough for him so they took the fight from me.
BBN: You’ve had a wonderful career so far, one that has been overlooked even with the Pacquiao performance. How much longer do you want to continue to fight?
JC: I really want to be a champion at 154Ibs, trust me. But they don’t want to give me a shot. The only shot they gave me his when I went to Australia and fought Anthony Mundine and I won the WBA international title. They don’t want to give me a shot because they know if they do I will make it, but definitely it’s going to happen because this fight will lead to that.
BBN: What is your final goal in this sport?
JC: To win the world title again and I’m optimistic of doing that.
BBN: Finally, what are your final words to Ghanaians ahead of your upcoming bout in December?
JC: I want to tell Ghanaians to keep on praying for me. Their eyes are on the world title and I want them to believe in me because I will definitely win the world title for the nation.
BBN: Thank you for your time, Joshua.
JC: You are welcome.
