Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could kzitem.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

I like the fact that you don't always have a successful day of fishing in your videos. Makes them more realistic and suspenseful. Just like fishing in real life. I also think it's pretty cool you hooked into and fought that monster with that BBQ lighter reel thing. lol what an experience. :) Thanks for sharing!

That giant fish that swam off was definitely a grass carp. We have had them in our lake for many years and they spook and make giant splashes and waves like that. we hook into them every once in a while, but they would usually break off right at the bank when they run. They are absolutely massive fish. Very powerful, but so much fun to reel in.

We have paylakes here for channels blues and flatheads. They have big cat lakes and keeper channel lakes. Sometime this summer me and the boys challenged one another to catch the biggest fish possible on DOCK DEMON RODS. I got my idea planned out. Casting I'm using a sling shot for casting distance, I'm using a #6 circle gamakatsu hook and I'm fishing in the biggish lakes where there is only 20+ pounders 🤣

This was painful to watch, but there's still educational value in demonstrating the limits of using tackle that isn't designed for serious fishing. Now, if you were to go back to this pond with serious micro fishing gear and try again...that I'd like to see. You will likely break off some more, but you might surprise us.

Nick, I watch often because of two big things (for me). First, you are very skilled at making good videos. I love the way you put them together and you do it well. Second, because 30 years ago I used to do the same thing you do, minus the Google Earth and KZitem. I traveled out of Michigan to Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, by company car. I ALWAYS had a tackle box and fishing pole. I had my favorite farm ponds I would stop at for 30-60 minutes. Catch and release everything. Sometimes I'd be out there in a shirt and tie. (ON WORK TIME)!! It was awesome. I'm kinda too old now, but I seriously enjoy your channel.

Nick, 3 words, Ronco Pocket Fisherman. My stepfather hated how much time I spent fishing, he wanted me to play football, basketball and baseball so he took all my gear and gave it away except I had hidden a tackle box that was fairly well fitted out and in it was my pocket fisherman. I caught bass, hundreds of bluegills, trout, crappie and one really nice northern pike. The only thing that wasn't caught was me. I hear today's version isn't as nice as the early ones. I did convince my mom to take me to a sporting good store where i replaced one of my rigs. Nothing would ever beat my after school rig of a Berkley Cherrywood and Abu Garcia spinning reel. I kept it at school in my locker so my step-dad never found it. I played one season of each sport, would have lettered but freshmen didn't letter so I never played again.

That was awesome but sad 😫 the lighter rod didn't let you down , figured that would snap right into . Took a big fish to straighten and break that hook .
