In the beer tube there is also a little amount air, oxygen. I always make sure that the liquid tube is also out of air, to do this I simply connect the fitting to a keg (which is under pressure of CO2) and then press the little needle in the second fitting to let the co2 purging the tube.

I have a floating dip tube in my keg but I found the end of the tube wasn't heavy enough to sink under the surface properly so I was getting a lot of air/foam. I got around it by cutting a small piece off the handle of a stainless steel teaspoon and ziptieing it to the tube. It sits just below the surface now and works perfectly.

Buckets are so easy to clean. I love the air being kept out, but these things seem like they are a lot of work. Fellow WNY guy.

And that’s the reason I haven’t gotten rid of my buckets. Buuuuut after a couple of batches, the conical benefits are really awesome. I wish I had 2 of them.

Just filled my keg today at 10psi in about 30 min. Super easy by using the pressure relief value on the keg and a co2 bottle hooked up to the fermzilla.

Like the idea of using the party tab with the drip tube to grab gravity readings smart I’m gonna do that on mine thanks

Yes I just need a Spundic valve so I can ferment under pressure and collect samples!!

Absolutely. It was in the mail, I just couldn’t wait to use the fermenter and the transfer though. Was happy all went well.

You should connect the gas connector from the keg to the gas connector of the fermzilla. In that way you dont have to bleed the valve to get the beer running. And cut the lenght of the dip tube to just above the bottom of the fermentor. In that way you get rid of the excess slack.

I just did a kegging this weekend. I agree it would make sense. I was just nervous because I didn’t want to mess anything up. I’ll start with little bits off at a time. Thanks.

I’ve looked at several videos regarding closed transfer from FV to Keg. It was whilst watching the manufacturer’s help video it gives several tips and it is mentioned there about trimming the dip tube length to avoid snagging on the walls of the FV

Yes. I just recently trimmed it and it helps a lot. I was just paranoid about cutting it too short, but all is well. Thanks.

Very nice run through. Thanks. How long did the transfer take? And this is perhaps a stupid question, but how do you make sure the beer has the right amount of carbonation - is it just a question of adjusting the psi during fermentation and transfer? Do you also add additional CO2 when puring from the keg?
@BuffaloBeerReviews
4 жыл бұрын
Good questions. The transfer takes like 10-15min I think due to the size of the dip tube inside the fermenter. But it’s 15min of easy work. I’m not sure honestly, what the right amount of CO2 or carbonation is. After the second dry hop, or around day 7 is when I hook it up to the CO2 at like 4-5psi. I figure that’s enough to get a good little head start on the carbonating process. I use a spunding valve on the CO2 port on the keg to help maintain and purge the built up pressure during the transfer. The spunding valve was on order when I made this video but it really helps make sure that psi pressures don’t get too high. Especially in the fermenter which has a 15psi limit. I hope some of the info helped. Let me know if I can do anything else for ya. Cheers from Buffalo!

Buffalo Beer Reviews Wow. Thank you for the quick end thorough reply 🙏💪 We have a brew on the Fermzilla. We haven't added any co2 yet and the pressure was well beyond 12 psi after two days of fermenting. We have turned the spunding valve, so now it's around the 10-11. I don't think we will have to add any extra co2 untill kegging. Again thanks!

Yes. Also what I have ended up doing too. There are also yeast strains that do well under pressure like if you wanted to do a lager under pressure.

I dont see any CO2 connector on the collection jar. When dryhopping its a good idea to flush the chamber with co2 after the hops are in, so you dont get oxygen in your beer when opening the valve.
@BuffaloBeerReviews

Yes. You are correct, they were on back order and came just a little bit after the video. I use the CO2 on one side and a spunding valve on the other side to purge it through.

Weigh the keg per gallon of water to know total volume of beer in keg

Also you could weigh an empty keg then weigh your filled keg. A litre of water weighs 1kg. I'm sure the beer will be slightly different from plain water but it will give you a good approximation.

@BuffaloBeerReviews

i believe so. I have a D coupler that has ball locks ports on it. Or if you have the ball lock on the fermenter side, you can have anything you want on the other end.
