The forest was shrinking but the trees kept voting for the axe, for the axe was clever and convinced the trees that because his handle was made of wood he was one of them. -Turkish proverb Let’s hope the new BC government will not resort to the loot, plunder & pillage practices of previous governments. If none of the parties running can actually protect the remaining old-growth forests then they shouldn’t be in office. We've seen enough destruction of our sacred rainforests. It’s time for action not more empty promises. Time is running out.

Politicians will not take measures that are unpopular, because they want to remain in power. You need public support to win. Focus on changing common people's minds

I agree. Unfortunately people are so far more interested in chasing money, so I guess when the awareness of this issue is present, it´s too late.

@@andreistirbu2733. That´s the sad part. My guess awakening to this will come too late. I would say it´almost already too late when 97% of all giant trees in Canada are logged.

Despite the NDP's "deferment" plan, I don't believe that they are going to do what's needed based on their appalling environmental record to date. VOTE GREEN for responsible stewardship of our Ancient Forests. CARBON SEQUESTRATION alone should be enough incentive to protect the last remaining 3% of old-growth ecosystems in British Columbia.

There is so little of it left and yet they want to take that too. We need to show how it is more valuable to BC to leave it and protect it. Tourism, wildlife, etc. are worth more with it intact than the temporary profit of chopping it.

They should be designated heritage and environmental sites. And these trees are far older than any of our buildings.

A great job on your video and thanks for all the information. You would think in this environment, the Greens would have a landslide majority. I sure hope so.

After removing every old growth tree from the eastern interior of BC they can't stop themselves. With the island being a very popular tourist attraction it should be a Canadian issue too.

I wasn't going to vote at all this year, for the first time ever, but protecting these amazing endangered ecosystems is far too important. Green party you will get my vote yet again!

This video is propaganda -the entire video only show the regular 30 hectare blocks that are normally logged in B.C and the odd giant cedar that of which we have everywhere, just look at the 40-60 year old 30-60 cm wide trees show along the back of those blocks, they fail to show any actual endangered old growth rain forest! probably because those forests are already made in to Provincial parks. at 1.35 in the video the girl speaking starts with a dialogue that would make you think logging will cause a chain reaction of social and ecological problem. the B.C government currently does an excellent job of forest management and we don`t need an American based company like Then Ancient Forest Alliance to muck that up. B.C has an amazing forest practices code that the NDP legislated in the 1990s protecting the fragile ecosystems.

Do you think that people should have the right to cut down trees that are many centuries old? These forests will not recover, even if left for a thousand years untouched. How shortsighted are humans? Why protect a two hundred year old building if we can't even protect >500 year old trees? This is our history!

@@williamsawyer18.. The fact is that most of this logging is done on Crown timber licensed land - which is highly regulated under the BC forest practices code -this has been in place since the mid 1980s, brought in by the NDP government- every aspect of ecological environmental protection is under strict scrutiny. I was employed as a block and road layout tech to accompany Geo technical staff and the BC forest service in approval of timber harvest under a government mandate of soil and water sustainable re growth strategy - smaller timber blocks of 30 hectares.. which included no cut wildlife corridors and stream and water run off protection buffer zones were established..this assumption that loggers go marching out cutting non stop is a false. I have caught the forest Alliance faking photos for financial support..example one of their photos show a man placed at the bottom of a giant Cedar and then a photo of the same man with the same clothes standing under what appears as the the same tree. cut..one would think they harvested the tree the same hour the man was in that area..unrealistic..remember most of these areas are unreachable with out logging roads and most of the centurion Cedars are survivors of mass forest fires .which explains the fir tree which surround them..fir trees only grow after forest fire burn out conditions.
