I own a business in Richmond, BC. I called someone to renovate my unit and we settled on a price. However, after I saw the work, I found out that it was very low quality. I refused to pay the agreed amount because i felt like the work that was done did not satisfy me. The renovator decided to sue me. What should i do?

At the end of the line, despite having a judgment in my favour in BC, for about $3500.00 my debtor never paid me anything She just ignored court orders. She was arrested, then did not pay, then immediately arrested and told to pay, but did not, She was never put in prison which is the third and last option on the summons document but never implemented, according to the clerk at the court, who I spoke to Garnishing was not possible because she lived completely on private and government pensions that the federal government protects The contents of her apartment would not cover it after paying bailiffs

I must ask, why is small claims so much different in California than BC. It seems we have to go through a lot more rhetoric in BC than Cali. For example, California small claims need not any Lawyers to re-present and frustrate the situation. They actually disallow them and for good reason. By that, I mean a lawyer can only provide evidence from a third party heresay perspective and not from the horses mouth, which is in contrary from what BC allows. I dont understand why there are so many differences and why the laws do not come into harmony with each other just like the U.C.C. and PPSA. Quite a huge situation to get involved in. Massively time consuming within BC small claims and makes most people not even bother to make claim. It disheartens me to see that the law society has, once again, made it far too complex for the common man and woman to claim and or defend their position. Makes me sick to the stomach actually, just like the entire court system which in my books is defunct of reality and forces defacto powers upon most people without their full knowledge all the while stealing from their creator given ESTATE. Is Justice served? One may ask? Hardly so for many men and women that have true hearts and are of true conviction and principal. The entire justice system favors the criminal intention to say the least and allows the lawyers to run the show and all biasly.

Probably because they're not in the same country? you do know there are other countries in the world than the US, right?

@@pfishy98 r u a reject? That is the whole point of me asking this question and regardless now I know. It's all in equity notwithstanding if you even take the response to know this.

You're asking why there are differences between the legal systems of two entirely different countries, so your question seems to answer itself, bud.

@@pfishy98 if you really understood what I had written and researched then it's not that simple and as I have now been informed we can import common law case law in arguments into other countries and jurisdictions so to make the answer so simple as you would assume is just that, you assumed. That is the problem with people, we are not entirely different we are actually entirely the same.
