I cleaned the throttle body for my 2010 Chevy Equinox and caused more issues than I bargained for. After putting it back on, my check engine light turned on with code P0223, which is triggered when the voltage output from the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch to the PCM is too high.
I also got messages "Service Stabilitrak" and "Reduced Engine Power", and it wouldn't accelerate past 25mph, so it was practically undriveable.
For the 2010 model year the TPS sensor isn't serviceable so I had to put on a whole new throttle body assembly.
Personally, I recommend leaving the throttle body attached to the car when cleaning it. This won't give you a deep clean, but it might prevent the possibility of needing a new assembly. Apparently on newer models you CAN replace the TPS, but if you have a 2010/2011 GM you might not be able to.
