Great content and it applies to every city in the world, not just Madrid, for the most part. One piece of advise re pickpockets, is beware of crowds especially those where you are distracted watching things. We saw our first pickpocket in Pittsburgh PA during the fireworks...as everyone looked up he was looking at men's pants pockets and diving in. Working girls work conventions and trade shows, not just bars. When gambling or eating, or in a theater, never put your purse down at the floor at your feet...keep it on your lap...I learned that as a college student in a movie. Don't hang purses mfrom the back of your chair...that drives me crazy. In hotels, double lock the door and put your wallet and valuables out of the way in the back part of the room, not on top of a bureau where someone can quickly grab it if they can get in your room. On a train with an overnight in a cabin or just dozing off in first class, keep purse and valuables away from door and quick grabs. On a long train trip around Hamburg robbers did a grab and go and quickly got off at the next stop in the middle of the night. The conductor said they made runs regularly on different routes. Fortunately I am a light sleeper and woke when they opened our first class cabin door...and we had put purses and such near the windows, not the door. At any rate Jay, this is great content and the walk through Madrid was lovely to see.

Great content. Everyone traveling needs to hear. You might also mention different drugs you should not travel with that maybe legal in US. Another is clothing. I know camouflage clothing is popular in US but can have you fined or arrested in other countries. Thanks for your videos.

@@AMtwoG The European countries have their military on patrol in public (where we in the U.S. have local police) -- you don't want to appear as local military police by wearing cammo, as that would target you as a potential terrorist.

Also, know the country's "dress norm" where you are traveling to. Many countries are very conservatively dressed, and many countries will hassle you if you dress like a hooker as places like The Vatican won't even let women in if they are exposing arms and legs. In Arab countries, like Dubai, women need head coverings (not a full hijab) and sleeves and leg coverings are a must!

I am from Madrid and I can confirm that pickpocketing is common. There was one time when I was a little kid that I was with my mum and some guy and his kid came asking for directions while my mum was taking money inputting her personal information and my mum saw this coming so she told me to get out of there by just walking normally but they insisted and my mum kept telling no to them and it worked

There really is no comparison when it comes to safety and quality of life, Madrid blows all US cities away. Oh, and I'm gonna start using "thinking with your other head" from now on...LOL

Thanks for sharing. I became aware of certain crime in Europe years ago, like the 80's while station in Germany. Then, years later, we actually met this lady on our 1st cruise, who started up a conversation with me and my friend. She wanted us to follow her to the subway. But I remember what I had learned many years ago; although she said she was American, these young men was riding on bikes and I believe to this day, that she was the one that gets you to head into area and young men would rob you, and all worked together. Anyway, we also was taught about pick pockets and men to carry wallets in front pockets. Also, we was taught about the redlight district, and while traveling through areas of Germany, Paris, Spain, Italy, etc., we saw the women in the windows on display. It's a different world in some areas. Crime is everywhere, some just different then others.

Great info J! I went to London with my parents when I was 16. We went to take the Tube and I noticed someone pushing in right behind us when other doors were readily available. I looked down and his hand was in my dad's back pocket! That's probably the biggest reason I've been using a front pocket wallet for a long time :-).

Loved the content Jay! Only wished that you could explain WHERE in Madrid you were walking -- it definitely did not appear to be a tourist spot (until the last shot in the open courtyard). I would think that most of us who would ever visit Madrid, would probably stick to the "tourist spots". Anyway, I am curious if you plan on visiting Barcelona, as I've heard THAT is the city to visit in Spain! Stay safe and I agree. Fellas, wrap it up (no issue for me, I'm happily monogamous to my partner).

Jay, as always, great content, We travel frequently. Have you heard of girl pockets? Well, I'm not overly endowed (lol TMI) but have enough room there to slip my credit card size money holder. I try not to carry a lot of cash on me at any time. I also have a cross body bag, tear drop shaped that has room for a lot more items if it's going to be a long day of touring. Tucked under my or hubs shirt, front of body, not like a back pack, kept thin & inconspicuous. Also, for new travelers......QUIT GAWKING at everything. That's one of the first things pick pockets look for. Go, enjoy the sights, but try to fit in with the "regulars", try not to look like a tourist.

That was very interesting Justin. My girlfriend and I went to Spain in our 20s, we had a blast! We did go to one of the clubs and I was literally surrounded by men wanting to dance with me. They kept calling me Donna Summer, 😅, I did have the big hair back then. My silly girlfriend spent the night with some strange guy and it scared the hell out of me. I couldn’t sleep the entire night worrying about her 🥺! She finally slipped back in the hotel room the next morning, I was furious! I grab her and our clothes and headed back to the train to Germany where we were stationed. I never went away with her again!!! In mentioning all this, girls, just because he’s pretty and have a beautiful smile, do not trust him! You’re in another country and you have no idea what type of guy he is. Things could have ended badly for my girlfriend and being in the Military, could have caused an international incident!!!

25yrs ago I had my wallet taken out of my purse at a theater. Didn’t know it was gone until the thief actually called me. He said that he found my wallet & wanted for me to meet him at an address (that didn’t exist) to return it to me. I didn’t go! I went straight to the bank to freeze my accts & called my credit card companies. If they can get you out of your house on a wild goose chase, they can rob your home. Also if you go somewhere to meet them you can get robbed again. Anything can happen anywhere at anytime. I learned my lesson. I no longer carry my checkbook & several unnecessary credit cards.

@BlackHoleSpain
Жыл бұрын
Taxis already charge you a plus to carry people from the airport or a rail station. Most of them are legal and their licenses are shown next to the meter. Unless you carry a ton of luggage, and your hotel is strangely away from a Metro station, you should take subway or commuter trains. Both reach the airport and are quite affordable (1.50 to 2.20 euros). They're are also quite fast. Airport lines run about 120 kph (75 mph) and you'll be downtown in 12 stops, barely 20-25 minutes.
