This week Caritas brings to you a verse of a fine, anthem-like hymn tune ‘Dinbych’ by the local Welsh composer Joseph Parry (1841 - 1903). We’ve set the tune to a text beginning ‘Be still before the Lord’.
’Dinbych’ is the Welsh name for the historic North Wales town of Denbigh and means ‘small fortress’
Note the typical strong minor-key flavour of the harmony which is so popular in Welsh hymns, and the powerful 'Amen' at the end, with its closing major chord of optimism!
