I think every time we are called to act in love but we are also required to speak the truth IN love and there is a lot of deception and falsehood in our society. Christ after all is Truth as Person. We cannot have love that isn't also grounded in the Truth. Unfortunately most people today believe the lies of our modern secular world, those who's hearts are open we must seek but also understand that most people will not be swayed, according to the Fathers.

I got another fun anecdote, I was traveling weekly for work by plane, and there was a terrible storm - turbulence was aweful - I must have said “our father” like 300 times - in my asking for comfort I then realized next to me was an orthodox monk and behind us seated was his metropolitan - they were headed to TX for prison ministry. Without getting political, is it ever a sin to vote for certain candidates who may not fully have Christian ethics (like they may support abortion, and other non-Christian teachings) but we like other things they they stand for that don’t contradict Christian teachings? A great video! I disagree that scripture is saying not to fight evil. Its saying to avoid evil. Not confronting evil is giving into evil. Its done in prayer and unity and not with our fist. But as long as the church is divided and unforgiving nothing with get better.
@stevenchristoforou1667
4 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you mean by "confront." When we avoid evil in our hearts, we do have to confront it head on. But that's a deep struggle in the heart. Confronting it in others (whether with our words or our firsts) changes our focus and can blind us to the darkness in our own hearts. The Light doesn't need to confront evil: it dissolves the darkness simply by being there.
@TheHauntedESC
4 жыл бұрын
@@stevenchristoforou1667 I wish it was true. If history teaches us anything is that evil left unchecked causes unnecessary suffering . The 20th century taught us that. I'm not saying physical confrontation is the answer because for the church it is not. There is a point where the church must call out evil and overcome with love, hope and faith. St. Pual did say we are in a spiritual war.

@@TheHauntedESC Yes, we're at war with powers and principalities (Ephesians 6:12). When we stress confrontation, we make other people (rather than the demons) our adversaries. You're right, we may occasionally need to call out evil. We have to be careful about how we do that.

Please take this in the spirit of constructive criticism, because I LOVE your videos😊: While I generally agree with the sentiment in your video regarding how we should treat one another, I find it interesting how you continued to use the phrases "owning the Libs" and "triggering the snowflakes", phrases those on the political Right have said in response to those on the political Left. I find it interesting because it demonstrates how potentially one-sided your views are. For example, you don't mention anything about phrases such as "punch a Nazi", "smash the fascists", "Trump is literally Hitler", "all Trump supporters are literally Nazis and racists", etc., which are all phrases the political Left uses when referring to their political opponents on the Right, and I wonder why that is. I find it interesting because while the phrases "owning the Libs" and "triggering the snowflakes" could very well be an indication of a prideful spirit on the part of those who say such things, neither one demonizes its political opponents like calling them "Hitler" and "Nazis" and "racists". It seems pretty clear to me that while both are bad, one is worse than the other, right? One side is talking about "owning the Libs" which means to win arguments against those on the political Left by showing how unreasonable or illogical their position is, while the other side is calling their political opponents "Nazis" who literally and historically killed millions of people in a war and were racists, basically the definition of evil. Yeah, no contest there as to which one is worse in my book. When I look around at the news, do I see those on the political Right causing violence? Sure, there are some instances no doubt. But the VAST MAJORITY of instances of violence and destruction and intimidation is coming from the political Left. Groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter have been the ones that have burned, destroyed, attacked, and killed the most in 2020. Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, Kenosha, Washington DC, New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, just to name a few of the cities that have experienced riots this year, and some places like Portland continue to with well over 100+ days of rioting and violence. It's not political Right groups of people causing the majority of violence in the U.S., it's not Trump's supporters going around burning down businesses and rioting in the streets, it's the "anti-fascists" who are doing those things. As Orthodox Christians we're not only to be people actuated by love, but truth also. We need to see clearly the things that are really happening so that when we speak about them we aren't giving a skewed version of reality. While there is blame to go around, and I'm not denying there isn't, it's still possible to recognize who has been using the most extreme, hateful, and evil rhetoric that has the potential to lead to the worst kind of violence. I mean, what would we expect people to do to stop actual Nazis and Hitler himself? We'd expect that they would oppose them and even kill them, right? And the fact you chose to call out phrases like "owning the Libs" and "triggering the snowflakes", as though those were representative of the worst in our political discourse, while ignoring the obviously worse things being said, is, I believe, naive and ignorant at best, and potentially misleading at worst. I would humbly request that you reassess what is going on in the country, listen to what's actually being said from _both_ sides, see what is actually being done by _both_ sides. Only then will we truly know the reality of things as they are. With all that being said, keep up the good work! Your videos are and have been a tremendous blessing to me and many others! God Bless🙂

Thanks for the kind words. God bless you! Regarding the language in this episode: with respect, I think you may be reading a lot into a little. Also, notice the way your language points the finger at the other side. Yes, people on the Left have done a lot of property damage. And yet we can't overlook that people on the Right were also involved in that damage (for example, the destruction of a police station in Minneapolis, which became the go-to example of Antifa property damage). Not to mention the attempted kidnapping of Michigan's governor, which actually "included plans to overthrow several state governments." Links for both below. Simply pointing the finger at the Left ignores all that. www.startribune.com/charges-boogaloo-bois-fired-on-mpls-precinct-shouted-justice-for-floyd/572843802/ www.cnn.com/2020/10/08/politics/fbi-plot-michigan-governor-gretchen-whitmer/index.html

@@stevenchristoforou1667 I wasn't simply pointing the finger at the Left and ignoring anything those on the Right do or have done. I said there is blame to go around, and there has been violence committed by those on the Right for sure. However, what I said was that when I look around at the news I see that the _vast majority_ of violence and destruction is coming from those on the Left. Case in point, Philadelphia last night. My main point was to say that by _only_ using phrases like "owning the Libs" and "triggering the snowflakes" you're focusing only on the side that uses that language, the political Right, with absolutely no reference to what the Left side says which in my opinion is A LOT worse. Again, which is worse in your mind? Someone saying "owning the Libs!" and "triggering the snowflakes!" during the course of political conversations and arguments, or "Trump is literally Hitler, and all Trump supporters are literally Nazis and racists!"? Again, which type of rhetoric is more likely to lead to violent extremism in your opinion? One is a prideful statement and makes people angry, while the other literally _identifies_ people with arguably the most _evil_ people in modern times that killed millions brutally. Are both bad? Sure. But we should be able to, and ought to, point out that what one side is saying is much much worse than what the other side is saying. Just because they're both bad doesn't mean they're equal, just as theft and murder are both crimes, but we recognize one as being a whole lot worse than the other, right? To me, while we can point out that the spirit of "owning the Libs" and "triggering the snowflakes" is a bad spirit for sure, what should occupy the majority of our conversation on this topic should be that which is worse by far. To return to the theft/murder argument, condemning theft is important for sure, but condemning murder demands more of our focus and time, does it not? In the same way, more focus and time should be devoted to the more serious things than to the less serious things. But your video did even worse by completely neglecting anything said by the Left. You repeated the phrases "owning the Libs" and "triggering the snowflakes" three times during the course of your video with zero reference to anything those on the Left have said. This tells me that you have a skewed view of reality that doesn't quite match what's really going on in the country. KZitem is replete with videos showing both sides, what they're doing and saying. I'd encourage you and everyone else to check them out. People like Fleccas Talks, James Klug, Tim Pool, Slightly Offensive, Barely Informed With Elad, Joe Rogan Experience, etc., the majority of which produce on the ground reporting by actually interacting with people on the Right and Left at rallies and protests. Some of those individuals are on the Right like Fleccas, Slightly Offensive and Klug, but others aren't like Pool and Rogan. I'd encourage you, and others, to learn what's really being said and done by both sides so that we can all have an accurate view of what's going on. God bless🙂

And clearly we are called to fight evil based on Ephesians 6 as long as we know our fight isn’t against the world, but against the spiritual rulers of the world.
