I've been in a rabbit hole of old Rosie talk show interviews and I'm reminded of what a great interviewer she really was. She always made about the guest and let them shine rather than talking over them. She had a really natural talent for the job.

Bea was always very candid and honest. And at the end of this interview, Bea tells Rosie that it was a joy to be on her show. Which obviously is great to hear that, really endearing. Then Bea goes on to say that this is not usually the case. Which must mean that she didn't enjoy many, if not most; of the interviews she had done in the past. And you can tell that she's much more relaxed here with Rosie. Very interesting.

I thought she said she doesn’t really like todo this often, meaning she doesn’t like to interview often. I think she only came on because Rosie LOVED her in Maude (which was a great show) and only talked about that and theater with her. When interviewers got too much into golden girls she shuts down. She was clearly more proud of her work on Maude

Oh my goodness, Bea Arthur seemed like she was just a great human being! In addition to the sincerity she showed in this interview, I actually remember reading a true story about her on some social media platform awhile back that also illustrated how she was a good person. In this story, this person talked about how when they were a kid/young, they wrote a fan letter to Bea Arthur. After Bea received and read the letter she called this person and asked them what their dreams were and of course, the letter writer told her. Bea then encouraged them to not give up on those dreams. I thought that was the sweetest story and shows what caring person Bea must have been!

I'm under the impression that Bea didn't necessarily hate Golden Girls, but that she definitely wasn't super fond of it. I think Maude was more her thing, where the spotlight was a bit more on her as opposed to Golden Girls where she had to share the spotlight. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Some people flourish more when they get put in the spotlight. Just because Golden Girls was the public's favourite doesn't mean it's necessarily her own favourite.
