Chord progressions of this song were unheard of back then. Revolutionary. God bless Brian.

I read in Mike Love’s book that the lyrics of this were written the night before John F. Kennedy’ assassination. Brian and Mike wrote it with the intention of describing the feeling of lost love and the after effect is leaves. Little did they know, the song would signify so much more meaning, Mike said that the guys could not stop thinking about Kennedy when this song was actually recorded on January 1, 1964. The song ended up symbolizing for them the loss of Kennedy and how he will always be remembered.

My Fav group of all time since a teenager. Saw them twice with original members and visited their Brother Studio warehouse in California. I collected every LP album ,including their solo albums ,over the decades. I think there are 45 in all ,including smaller company releases ( Springboard). Their early album harmonies got me and a friend into forming rock bands. Peace.

Thanks Kirti and Savio for another great reaction. A beautiful song for a beautiful couple and You are right. The Beatles, The Kinks and The Beach Boys were big rivals in the 60’s and each wrote amazing songs about the world they grew up in. Liverpool for The Beatles, North London for The Kinks and Southern California for The Beach Boys. Places that were very different from each other. Sunny California beaches and cars and a rainy, Liverpool a depressed, post war port city in northern England and Swingin’ London a place that came alive again in the 60’s. You can’t go wrong with the sound of songs like this and the feelings they evoke. Brian Wilson, The Davies Brothers and Lennon and McCartney were all ahead of their time and amazing song writers.

ENOMA : To fully appreciate this Masterpiece, YOU need to know the story behind this song. ---------On the eve of The Kennedy Assassination, 11/22/1963, Brian Wilson began the melodies for this song. He composed it in both major & minor chords, & both major & minor 7th chords on the piano. It was Mike Love, the cousin, who composed these gorgeous lyrics. He wanted it to be both sad, yet hopeful , & that's how he came up with the idea of " The Warmth of The Sun", to express eternal love , longing, & yet, consolation. Given when the song began, Mike didn't want it to be depressing & without hope. ------1st time I heard this, I knew I was hearing genius --------in both the melody, & the vocals : Brian's whining falsetto voice, & the beautiful harmonies that accompany him. The song was recorded January 10th , 1964, in Hollywood, at Western Recorders. --------------------MJL, 75 y/o

Believe this was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love in 1964 on the day of the assasination of JFK. Not sure if it was before or after. But clearly the momentous occasion attached itself to this song forever. Not sure if you've heard 'In my room', another BB song from that era but possibly better.

Yes, "Warmth of the Sun" was written the evening after President Kennedy was shot -- Friday, November 22, 1963. Mike Love called his cousin, Brian Wilson, after hearing the news. They agree to meet in Brian's office about 6 or 7 p.m. As the sun was going down, "a mood overtook us" and they wrote "Warmth of the Sun." Check out the description of the song and how they wrote it in the film, "Brian Wilson - I Just wasn't Made For These Times."
