Wow....when we lived in Japan in the 60s we would walk the beach and find floats larger than basketballs. Most were in nets but some weren’t. Over the years they were all broken but one.

I'm not sure if you are still collecting these floats, but it might make your work a bit easier if you had one of those long grabbers with rubber claws to pick most of them up, and maybe one of those heavier garden rakes to help you uncover the ones in the grass, too. Much luck to you!

They were used for flotation on foreign high seas drift nets years ago. Were mostly replaced by Styrofoam and plastic floats in the early 1970's. Yes, they come in several colors. I sell them from my website alaskaglassfloats.com

I would love to go beachcombing in Alaska for glass floats. I have three two 20-inch green glass floats that I found in the bay area of Ca. along with a small four-inch brown one which unfortunately rolled off the sofa and cracked when it hit the tile floor. I put some super glue on the crack to stop the float from falling apart but it just broke my heart no pun intended. Great videos Paul I like watching them. Be safe with the bears around.

Are these the same as the ones that wash up in Hawaii? I have a 4 inch green from 1955, my mother found on Oahu. I would love a smaller purple one and maybe a oblong one.
@alaskaglassfloatscom

Hi Mary Yes they ae the same floats that circulate around the Pacific. I don't have any purple floats, they are pretty rare but I do have a few rolling pin floats. A large roller 6inches long will be $29.00 postpaid. If you are interested you can contact me at alaskabeachbum@gmail.com

The floats are over 40 years old and the sun takes its toll on the webbing around the floats. I've found a few with marks that date to 1933. Happy beach combing. Paul
