Your story reminds me of this beautiful video game I once played called Firewatch. It’s about a man who ventures into the woods to take on the duty of fire watching a forest one summer, because he’s losing the woman he loves to an incurable illness. Oh how I've learned the hate the word "resilient" over the last six months... I lost my infant son to SIDS just before Steve lost Jess, I lost my home and nearly everything I owned in my grief, I lost my 7 year old daughter for an entire month, and now I'm trying to rebuild my life from nothing, with very very little help... And sure, everyone wants to call it "resilience" that I'm here, and I'm trying. But the truth is, it was simply pure animal instinct that made me survive for months and months and months. It's only very recently that I've found reasons to want to live again. Surviving through grief is far less than resilience much of the time... it's just a mindless fog of pain, and your body does what it needs to do to continue to b function largely by reflex. It's been a very rough journey back to the light. So I hate that word, "resilient."

Hey Steve, When I first started watching your videos a few years ago, I had pretty recently suffered a loss very similar to yours (my deepest sincere condolences to you), and, having become very solitary myself, I felt commaradary watching this affable guy (you) having these good-natured solitary adventures. My heart went out to you when you spoke about your loss. Sadly, I suffered another very significant loss this past October, and am currently right there with you in the throws of grief (the holidays were very tough). I think you're kinda brave: time alone with nothing to do but think can be extremely hard time. I know nothing really takes the grief away, but in those times when you've got the camera shut down and the grief grabs you, I want you to know that you've helped people (me, at least) and you're not entirely alone; and I hope that helps a little bit. Keep on keeping on.
