Bruno, you've blown my mind with this excellent review & here in England it will go dark,v.dark at around 9.40am+ because of the 85-90% ecli[pse of the sun due to take place today. I don't suppose that I'm in any way as pro-minded in respect of video,(never had the experience of such) as many of your other correspondants. However it's uplifting to know that with material things there's conscientious & careful production taking place.as opposed to money for nothing so to speak. Also if you yourself are taking this much care in your reviews of tech it means we've all got a reliable source of how to best use any piece of equipment such as a guitar player/songwriter like myself would ever need .'Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho' I've been playing am.. What a song& does remind me of the occasion in my youth when I visited that old ruin, there in the West Bank of Jordan.It's still the Holy Land to me despite the modern concrete walls that run so divisively for many miles, though I have heard that old Jericho now is ,via the archeologists, concerned scholars & govt. agencies, much more preserved in a heritage sense.Thank you for your excellent work./yours sincerely/Brian Cokayne/Stockport/ England.

Brian Cokayne I see! Did you enjoy the eclipse? I remember back in the 80s my father and I using a telescope to project an image of a solar eclipse onto a piece of paper so we could watch the progress - obviously you can't observe directly through the telescope! Glad you like the review! My contact at Beachtek said it's the longest review of one of their products they have ever seen :P I replied that there are plenty of short video reviews out there, so why not some long ones too? Something for everyone, yes? I too have had the privilege of visiting the Holy land and seeing the walls you speak of - no sign of these tumbling down any time soon, I must say... Always great to hear from you, keep on making music :)

Great review as always Bruno,you really deserve much more wiews and subs! Anyway let me bother you with the usual silly questions! ;) I have a Zoom Q3HD for shooting my vids,the video quality is poor but the sound is excellent with his X/Y condenser mics onboard! But when I want to use any other mics of my choice,I go like this: I connect the mics on the mixer channels,and then I go out from the L/R buses with an Y cable (2 x 6,3 jack mono to 1 x 3.5 mini jack stereo),into the minijack input LINE IN of the Zoom Q3HD. The results are not bad at all! Do you think that with this tool you reviewed,it would be better for the sound?
@GLBProductions

***** No questions are silly Chris, only the ones that are never asked ;) How do you get your audio from the Zoom into your video? Do you replace the on-camera audio in post production, or run a line out of the zoom and into your video camera?
@CrisValk
9 жыл бұрын
I agree :) No,I simply put it all directly into the LINE IN of the Zoom,so the onboard mics are automatically excluded and the Zoom will get the audio from that when I'm shooting...and all is perfectly synchronized too!
@GLBProductions
9 жыл бұрын
***** Oh yes of course - sorry I had forgotten that the Q3 is a video recorder, I always associate zoom with audio recorders :P The output of the DXA-HDV is MIC level, so it will not be compatible with the line in of your Q3HD, unless it can be switched to accept a mic level signal.

Hi Bruno.. Always so informative watching your videos. Thank you. I have a Allen Heath Mixer, with RCA to XLR cables..can you use the REC OUT rca socket on the mixer and connect this to one of these units through XLR to record audio to my Canon Legria G30?
@GLBProductions
9 жыл бұрын
Ky Trinh Hello Ky, in your situation there may be no need for the Beachtek - just run an RCA to minijack cable from the RCA out on your mixer to the minijack input on your G30 - make sure that the camera audio input is set to LINE level (from inside the settings menu) and you should be fine. I used this method for several years before getting the DXA-HDV.

Thanks Bruno, I'm looking at this unit and also something similar from juicedlink such to eliminate the hiss sound going through the camcorder as all my vocals and keyboards (btw thanks to you I've purchased a couple of the Radial proD2 for my keyboards, clarity and separation is very noticeable once amplified) come out of the mixer. Also, I've purchased the Rode SVMP X, so hopefully getting optimum sound. So can I assume the REC OUT input on the mixer be used for this purpose?
@GLBProductions
9 жыл бұрын
Ky Trinh Yes, the REC OUT is perfect for connecting to a camcorder. Actually you can follow the procedure outlined in the video to disable the AGC on your camera and see if it helps with the hiss.

Great! Your channel has the most in depth reviews of any gear and I especially love how you even sample the products as to how they sound and work as often like myself don't get to test or hear these things. More importantly I appreciate you take the time to reply.. Till next time, take care.

Ky Trinh Yes, I think there are many short video reviews out there so there should be at least one channel that does things in detail :) Until the next time, all the best with your music!

can you make a tutorial about, a very detail it...line vs mic input-output...about impedance but with examples...speaker impedance being together..I mean I know that if you make this tutorial I'm going to finally understand this subjects,,,you are the best explaining stuff haha.

+Michael Nova Hello Michael, these questions have been answered in some of my other videos: mic vs line level is addressed in several videos, in particular the DI box videos and how to connect two mixers together. Speaker impedance is addressed in detail in my three recent power amplifier videos. I agree these are relatively complex subjects! Feel free to ask any specific questions you may have, either here on on Facebook.

Does a beachtek end result sound as good or close to seperate into H4 or H1.. a guy at a camera shop today said no cause its still going in to the camera????!?!!! I thought that was odd cause if that were true Beachtek would not have a job!?
@GLBProductions
8 жыл бұрын
That's a good question! The Beachtek is just an interface, so it only sounds as good as the mic that you plug into it and the A/D convertors in your camera. The zoom recorders only sound as good as their built in mics plus you need to sync the audio in post, which is one of the main reasons for using the Beachtek as it saves you this step. The Beachtek is basically designed to add XLR inputs and phantom power to cameras that have only a minijack audio input. The quality of the audio still depends on mic choice and placement.

Yes, the quality of the audio can be equally as good as a separate digital recording device with the proper setup. This explains more: player.vimeo.com/video/125111558?autoplay=0&badge=0&byline=0&portrait=0&title=0&api=1&wmode=transparent&fullscreen=1

You said an alkaline battery lasts about 3 hours when NOT using phantom power. How long does it last when you DO use phantom power? Thanks. Great review!
@GLBProductions

***** Unfortunately I can't answer that question - the company does not provide that information and I didn't test it during the review process. However, we can say for sure that it will be significantly less than three hours! If you do find out please post here and I will annotate it to the review, thanks.

GLB Productions And they made it for those stupid 9v things which aren't cheap. They only last a few hours and get tossed into a landfill which does no one any good. Apparently they made this as a companion for the Blackmagic Pocket so why not use the same form factor battery? I was going to connect this to a camcorder on a tripod for KZitem work. Mix a shotgun and a lavalier. Maybe I don't really need it after all.

Why don't you write to Beachtek with these concerns and ask them to recommend another one of their products? They have excellent customer service in my experience dealing with them.

GLB Productions To be honest, I don't know what I'm whining about. I just remembered there's a DC adapter that plugs into a 9V battery socket. I probably have one in a box somewhere.
