I shoot 53 grain flat base from my match conditioned AR in reduced course high power rifle competition. The value is more consistent recoil resistance, as well as lower recoil giving me more time to dress up my sight picture. At any rate, seems to deliver better scores than shooting 77’s in 100 yard events. BTW, you might get better results with a lighter load of powder.

It seems like Bear Creek is really getting it's stuff together. A .6 inch group is great, no matter how much you spend on a barrel.

I've heard mixed things about them but I must say I am impressed! Thanks for watching, New Texican. I wish the guy at the range that told me sub-MOA from an AR wasn't going to happen was there when I filmed this 😁

I don’t think your testing method is best for an understanding of barrel accuracy. Shoot a match grade factory round like 77 grain FGMM or Mk262 from both barrels without any other changes. This will get you a performance baseline. In your test you changed powder in addition to barrels and there are two problems with that, the first is the powder change and second is neither handload likely having the consistency round to round that the factory match ammo would deliver. Finally, ten round groupings would flesh out obvious marksmanship inconsistency than would five round groupings. My experience in this matter is as a US Service Rifle Competitor having earned the US Distinguished Rifleman Badge, which required an understanding for the barrels and ammunition that performed best.

I don’t doubt you at all. What I didn’t show in this video was the hundreds of rounds I put through the PSA barrel without any good results. I was able to achieve much better results using the Bear Creek barrel and it is repeatable. As far as factory ammo being more consistent than my hand loads, I’m going to have to disagree on that. The factory match ammo does not get as much attention to detail as my hand loads do. I weigh every single charge, I check trim length on each piece of brass, and depending what gun I’m loading for I’ll weight sort bullets. The ammo is consistent as you make it. I think the issue with the PSA barrel was the birdcage flash hider having a defect in it which I didn’t notice until I removed it to get the gas block off of the barrel when putting the new barrel onto my upper receiver. So perhaps the barrel wasn’t the issue, but the flash hider. I haven’t put any more effort into the PSA barrel. I agree, ten shot groups are better. Heck, there are just some days where I don’t shoot that well. But when I spend more money on reloading components than what a new barrel costs, it becomes kind of circuitous. Thank you for watching. I appreciate any and all input.

I like that comb riser, it's definitely needed for those AR's...it might need some shaping on top to lock into the cheek bone but all faces are different in that respect. Remember that when you get to the long side of your 'breath-let-out'...don't force the shot as you run low on oxygen, just sit up & take a few breaths and re-embrace the rifle and start all over. I've thrown so many shots from a nice group when I forced the 'breath window' that I've wanted to spank myself! I know that it's easy to say this but in the moment it's hard to do. Very nice work all around...from build to reloading to sending them downrange....my my how far you have come in such a short time. "ATTA-BOY"

It definitely needed some sort of cheek riser. I couldn't find a good hold point at all with the factory stock. I might try to do a little foam shaving soon to see if i can get a better fit but so far it's a lot better than before! I tend to forget to focus on breathing as well when I get too busy watching the crosshairs dancing. I'll keep that in mind. Thank you for watching, Charlie, and God bless.

Nice. I am running Del-Ton ARs. Remington and Savage bolt rifles. There was a good article in this new month's American Rifleman (November edition) on "Dealing With Fouling: Getting Out What You Put In" and it was about bore fouling build up over time. We do clean our rifles but and I quote, "but cleaning doesn't mean it's clean." We need to clean deeper to remove the copper and carbon fouling that gets stuck to the grooves and that is a deeper kind of clean few of us do so we may think something is wrong with our rifle because our accuracy is not what it used to be. I can relate. I am in the process of taking a long hard look at my precision .222 bore because its not what it used to be with proven loads and I know my lands are still good. I do not want to spend money on an expensive bore scope but I can look at the grooves with light and magnification up close at the muzzle and chamber and get some supplies to clean the grooves deeper than I normally do. Stronger solvents and copper brushing. Just going through the process of deep cleaning until patches come away clean should get it done. I will need to break out my bore guide from storage for this job that may take several days of soaking, scrubbing, and wiping. So if you are losing accuracy and you think your bore is clean, it may not be. I recommend you read that article. Thanks for sharing.

Great Video, I have a lot of PSA uppers and have got similar groups like you have, they really seem to like 69gr smk’s for the PSA 1/7 barrels. The BCA barrels I have seem to like everything from 55gr to 69gr, and dont like 77gr at all, go figure huh, Varget is a go to powder for me in a compressed load for 223 and shoots the best for me, the BCA barrels also shoot better being hand lapped or having a couple hundred rounds down range then the groups shrink. For the money BCA barrels are hard to beat, my favorite budget friendly barrels are spinta precision, I get way below sub moa out of them and I even have a 14″ barrel from them that shoots 1/2moa all day, if you look for another barrel in the future I would check them out. Thanks for the vids I like to see real world data like this.
