Today at 1 pm we encountered a lone bear cub on the Butte Canal. Although the mother was nowhere to be seen, we were in a potentially dangerous situation. The cub started to follow us, but we had no option other than to leave as quickly as possible.
This occurred 2.6 miles from the Doe Mill Rd Bridge, where the Hendricks and Butte Canals merge.
On Monday, we encountered a cinnamon-colored bear, also on the Butte Canal. With the warmer weather, bear sightings may be more common.
