Unboxing new Bear Montana long bow. 55 pound draw weight is a bit more than the 40-45 pounds of my other bows. My form falls apart after ten arrows or so. Beware of the overbow!
The first bow I ever owned was the Bear Grizzly recurve. I bought it when I was 15. Loved that bow. Now I’m looking at the Montana. Great looking bow and some great reviews. Cheers👍🇨🇦😎🏹

Nice. But the way they glued the handle leather looks quite cheap. Would be nicer if they had stitched it like other companys.

I absolutely agree, it did look cheap. For the price of this bow they could totally stitch the grip on.

Bought on eBay. Comes in two colors I believe, black and brown. No one buys the brown, I got a deal on this I think partially because of the color. Thanks for watching 👍🏾

If I had the choice I would have gone with the black/gray version as well. I got a great deal on this bow, I think because it was the last one in the batch, left handed, brown, 55#, probably the least sold model of the Montana line. At $200 I couldn’t pass that up. Only odd factor for me is the 55# weight, I would prefer 45#-50# max. That extra five pounds really does tip the scale when it comes to what I can draw effectively and keep a solid form.

@@HandyL mine is 50#, but with my draw length it hits 68# It's a smooth and fast bow. It's difficult to find a real longbow in this range of prices in France (350-500€) most of them are reflex deflex, wich i really dont like because for me, it's not a longbow. I have a friend that have an old 1964 kodiak, super good bow too. I would love to find a vintage super grizzly or super kodiak.
@HandyL

Wow you must be super tall and or have really long arms. My draw length is roughly 32” so I’m pulling back about 65# on my bow if you take the 2.5lb per inch over 28” draw. It’s tough when trying to gauge a bow when your draw length is that much over 28”, the written poundage on the bow means nothing to some degree.

@@HandyL i'm only 6' tall, but i have 33" amo in draw length. At a certain point the draw weight increase is not linear. I have a bow marked at 50#@28 that is 53#@28 it is 62#@30 but it's at 76#@32... And you really feel when it begins to be harder to draw... When i tried the Montana, i tried a 45# that i measured at 59# at my dl. And when it arrived the 50# was 68#.
@HandyL

Yes, that makes sense. The weight # increase starts to go up exponentially as more force/tension is applied to the limbs. I must be pulling a bit more than 65# I bet, maybe more than a bit. 😬

Honestly I wanted the other darker color but I got a sweet deal on this one and they only had it in brown. Maybe they will bring the color back one day. You know how cool things come and go. Cool one day, lame the next, and so on and so forth.

@@HandyL I hope not cause I just finally ordered a black one! Took me forever but I finally convinced myself to cause I had a coupon and I got it $360, which was a steal to me and I’m happy. First longbow! I started in a cheap Amazon recurve and I finally get an upgrade, used my first paycheck on it.

Nice shooting. Great scenery. I’m left-handed, too, so it was great to see you shooting it. Would love to hear more (clearly) about it, such as: How is the string that came with it (I’ve heard the Bear bows are great but the strings are not)? Do you like the leather grip cover? How does the shelf work (I’ve seen many who have modified theirs)?
