Legend. Ordered the parts direct from Panasonic and followed this step by step. Just finished the job now. Only thing to add is it is tricky to find a socket piece big enough for the back nut, but an extendable spanned with the hammer worked the same. Also had to really hit hard to get the old bearings out - Don’t be shy! It took me 20 mins to finally hit mine out and had to use a Tyre wrench / socket bar as my extension in the end as the socket extension was getting damaged. Also careful not to damage the bearings when punching them back in (and make sure they go all the way back in) as the middle piece on the new bearings are plastic covered where the original were metal. Thanks again! You saved me $1500 plus from buying a new machine - only had to spend $75.00 for the bearing kit and 4 or so hours work.

Just replaced the bearings on a Panasonic NA-168VG3 and they worked just as well. They were very similar. It took me and my wife six hours with a 30 minute lunch break in the middle, so leave plenty of time. The biggest challenge was removing the old bearings which needed more force and patience than anticipated. I used a socket and extension as suggested in the video but also mixed it up with a large screw driver to hammer the edges of the bearings. Be patient eventually they will come out but for me they needed a lot of work. Also I would highly recommend having a second person to apply resistance to the casing while you are hammering away! The other challenge was putting back the door seal clip I am not sure if there is a trick to it but it was a bit fiddly. I purchased the bearing from a trader from ebay who was out of stock but got lucky as he had put in an order to replenish his stock. I couldn't find the bearing anywhere else, but an alternative, if you cant find the bearing set is to take them out and order the bearings directly from SKF suppliers as the serial number is written on the bearings.

This video saved us a ton of money! Cost of bearings with postage it was below £35...as opposed to entire new drum which would have been £290+vat plus labour. Husband who did the work said best to watch it through at least twice before embarking on the job. It was easier than cars apparently.

Probably would be better if you had said " reinstall" the washer. I get it though. ps , I didn't go to the shop to replace the washer LOL

Hi Paul, hey I have the Panasonic NA-148VX3 model so I imagine a very similar set up. It seems that my husband left some small nuts and screws in his pockets and put the clothing in the machine🤦🏼♀️, it got washed and completed seemingly with no issues (we were out when it was going through the cycle) and then afterwards I have found a wee nut in with clothes but something else seems to have made it between the drums and when you try and turn the drum by hand it makes a ‘tink tink’ sound of a small metal item and then jams up. Do you have a video or advice for dismantling and removing object from inner and outer barrel/drums🤔 I believe this would be a step further than this vid instructions and removing and dismantling the whole inner casing and replacing the seal kit as well. Any help would be very very much appreciated for this daunting task😳Thank you, Leanne from New Zealand☺️
@paulywooly
Жыл бұрын
Hi Leanne. It is nearly impossible to remove every small metal object from between the drums, without pulling the drum apart. Some people use magnets on a flexible handle but it mostly never works to get everything out. Sometimes the objects can end up in the drain pump which can cause more problems. You could skip the start of this video (rear cover, belt and nut removal) and start at the drawer removal part and stop when the outer drum is split apart. Then you can remove all the screws etc. It's not as daunting as it might seem. Have the video on hand and pause it as you do the job. And tell your husband, keep his nuts out of his pockets! Good luck Paul, NZ also

Informative video, changed my bearings today, this video saved me loads of time 10/10. I used SKF bearings the ones that came out were "Shein" shame on you Panasonic my machine is only 7 years old not done 2500 washes yet. Getting the old bearings out was a nightmare I fabricated a puller in the end and then had to thump them as well!

@@andrewmarshall5379 legend has it, he’s still bashing. 😂 but jokes aside, i finally managed to bash mine out. I’m sure i woke the neighbour up 😂. The bearings and shaft were badly rusted and the big bearing is stuck on the shaft instead. Now have to go the the hardware store to get a bearing puller. But still the total cost would be much cheaper than the local repairman would charge me as he said the bearing could not be replaced. Has to replace the whole drum. SMH

Hi everyone, followed this to the letter, super easy... until the removal of front bearing. It’s just jammed solid and no amount of smashing it is removing it... any guidance on this will be appreciated. I guess the other option is to keep smashing it until it falls out. Mine has gone badly rusty and the gap in between bearings is a rusty mess...weirdly, shaft is ok ... so, how do I get this bearing out ?
@paulywooly
4 жыл бұрын
Try and remove the seal first which can help. Use a claw hammer or screw driver to remove the seal. Then smash the bearing out. I did a machine yesterday with the same rusty crap and it took 15 minutes using a small sledge hammer before the bearing finally came out. I certainly worked up a sweat

Hi Paul, well, as recommended, brute force prevailed in the end after removing the seal, oh my good god, what a process!!. My final blow smashed it so hard it shot out and across the garage spraying rusty, greasy water everywhere...it missed my classic car by about 4 inches and left a dent in the freezer. Epic !!!! Now it’s out and the newbie is in. I put the rubber encased bearing in the front and back and it’s going good. The only trouble is it appears the heater element has packed up and I can’t remove that now neither... I dont want to take the whole thing apart again.. I wish I had dealt with this whilst I was in there, any suggestions to removing a stuck water heater in this puppy will be greatly appreciated, the sealing clamp is stuck tight, obviously gummed up and won’t allow it to be released. What a mission this is....

If you get somebody to hold the drum while you quickly smack the socket lever with a hammer as shown. You must use the hammer with short sharp whacks. The shock of the hammer will break the seal of the nut
