I had never thought about or considered synchronizing the level wind with the line on the spool. Great tip. I have only been bait casting Abu Gracias for 50 years. Some guys like me are a little slow. Thanks for the videos.

Bro kickass channel. Stumbled onto it. About to build my first ultralight baitcaster setup. Ordered the blank and all. Got a little reel like this coming in and I know its gonna be my go to setup for everything. Old school is new school lmao. Long live retro round reels and pistol grips.

I just bought a Tsurinoya Elf. I was going to put some Roro micro bearings in it. Have you come across anything better than those bearings?

Excellent video, Thanks. Oh, by the way, like the moment at 8:40, brought a chuckle. It's not like that has happened to anyone else ;). As I've gotten older, I really don't like those bearing retainers. Serious question, I've never run full ceramics, but have heard that people think the run 'loud,' and use oil to 'quiet them down.' Now we can get into a whole discussion of what oil is designed to do and what people think it's designed to do, but how is casting the full ceramics? Do you find them loud? Or is it a non-issue once your fishing, and get the bearings wet? Or do you just not notice while fishing? Thanks again for your videos!

Thanks Charles! Bearing retainers grrr 😂 Anyway... I started exploring full ceramic bearings for the 1500c because lubing & cleaning the bearings are a pain due to its synchronised level wind (same for the rest of my ambassadeurs). With full ceramics I have the luxury of running them dry - with only the need to soak them in solvent maybe twice a year to remove any oil that creeps into them. They are definitely louder than the hybrids but I don’t mind, in fact I like the sound. FYI there’s no difference in casting performance vs hybrids if the casting brakes are ON (as you can see in the video).

PS: I’ve not noticed if the bearings get wet or not during fishing. Casting performance doesn’t change during my fishing sessions. Again, could be due to the casting brake(s) nullifying everything.

Urban BFS; in most every reel used during fishing bearings do get some water in them. If you check the bearings during a fishing session, you’ll find them wet, or at least “damp.” If you don’t want to open the reel while on the water, notice the water stains or accumulations on the frame sides. If you fish in waters where it is muddy or stained or saltwater you get accumulations. Those accumulations are most often why reels ‘get dirty’ on the insides. The real problem is those accumulations, especially fine sediments, but in my experience dissolved organic get in a ‘muck up ‘ the insides, gearing, drags, bearings, etc. Now, it isn’t much, but water from the line has to go somewhere and tiny sprays of water get in the reel, any reel unless it is sealed. I know some serious anglers especially saltwater anglers that go to great lengths to use greases, in very fine amounts or sprays with fine oils to spray everything inside a reel, let it dry, before assembly. That’s one of the reason why reel manufacturers put sealed ball-bearings in reels, when bearings are made of steel, even so-called stainless steel. That’s one of the purposes of the oils, to prevent corrosion, but with full ceramics it’s not an issue.

when installing new spool bearings (I have the upgraded unsealed kind where you can see the ball bearings on one side) does it matter if the bearings go in face down or face up?
@UrbanBFS

Hi Lo Loo there shouldn’t be a difference in performance face down or face up. My preference is to have them installed whichever way that makes it easier to add lube or check for dirt. Thanks for watching 😁
