Bear Creek located in Southern Illinois near Pomona, Illinois and Little Grand Canyon just south of Murphysboro in the Shawnee National Forest, is home to an array of Illinois Waterfalls, Illinois Cave (Shelters), a tight Tunnel, and a Beautiful Canyon, which if in the Missouri Ozarks would be called a Shut-Ins.
Less Frequented and more Wild than Garden of the Gods, this rich area is used by locals with varied paths. Most exploring, though, is off-trail.
There is a protected Illinois Natural Area that is along a high bluff line that parallels Bear Creek. Bear Creek runs into Cedar Creek, which runs in the Big Muddy River, which empties out in the Mississippi River.
