So a WR who knows the system, can help in the return game. Good pickup.

Good to keep mining for talent. Imo, the vast majority of players reach 90-95% of their potential after 3 seasons. There are outliers, but counting on a 4th, 5th or 6th year player to "put it together" is very rare and when it happens, it seems to more on the team/coordinators utilizing them better....again, just my opinion and there are outliers just rare. Velus is one of those players that could benefit from a new OC as his talents just haven't been properly exploited imo.

I agree Swifty, competition is great for these positions. The awesome thing is after nearly 40 years I am seeing the Bears have guys coming in to try and compete and take jobs from good players instead of scraping the barrel to try and find starters from non starting talent.

Yo Swifty! Yeah, Velus should make the team, too much raw talent & SPEEEEED. Both Pettis and Swain can return punts so I think Carter's chances pretty slim. Pettis didn't dress for mini so maybe injury is lingering and Carter is insurance. Thx for all your great work!

This is a super solid pick. I think Poles is learning on the job and he learned that spending a 3rd round pick on kick returner was a pretty bad move. Now he gets wise, and brings ina vet for the minimum, thats how you do it. Those 3rd rounders are far too valuable to be spending on a return man, especially a guy whos 25 in his rookie year. We going to have accept poles makes those kind of wasted draft picks because it's his first time as GM. and hes learning, but he's learning fast at least.

Pettis is the NCAA record holder for PR TD's and in 2022 he was the only wr who played all 20 games.

Velus Jones Jr. had graduated from USC with a bachelors degree in sociology before transferring to Tennessee where he completed his Masters degree in agricultural leadership, education, and communications. He was granted an extra year of football eligibility due to the Covid pandemic.

If it were me choosing, I’d go with Collin Johnson & John Jackson III, if one of them can also handle return duties.

I'm really pulling for Dante Pettis still. Dude's got talent, his career has just been derailed by injuries. Saw his press conference earlier this year too. Seems like a good guy who just wants to do what he loves and things keep getting in his way.

Venus is better than advertised. We barely saw him on offense, where he is the best best at catching a pass and taking it to the house. We got plenty of chances to see what he is Not good at. Let’s see what he looks like in position to do what he does best. Velus will be a star in Pittsburgh. Oh wait that’s…🤢🤮

Do they update these RAS scores? At age 18, is he still carrying those numbers that I believe they are gathered pre-draft

I think that time is COMING soon, but not yet. Unfortunately NFL doesn't do any kind of OPEN testing after a player is drafted, but i believe with Next Gen Stats and ON FIELD tracking, we could actually be getting some kind of "Futuristic" data with on field tracking in the future.

2nd point though, MOST guys in the NFL keep their explosiveness throughout age 29+ unless they have some kind of crazy injury

Why isn’t Poles working on a pass rusher. I think the chiefs are going after his potential choices. I thought wheeler was going to be a punt returner.

DeAndre Carter has played for six teams in six years. He is 31 years old, and he never made it onto a regular season roster until his fourth year. This is mostly due to his poor hands and propensity to fumble.

Actually 7 teams and 2 stints with the Texans...but he's also played in 94 games and returned 250 kicks and punts.

@@SwiftSportsNetwork I remember he issues with left footed punters! He was a rookie with fumble issues! He fumbled once this year and you say he barely got the ball! That sounds like a Getsy issue! Sounds like you're saying, if he gets the ball he's gonna fumble! You can't have it both ways! Tyler Scott was absolute trash last year and he seems to get a pass. Velus looked better than Scott last year and he was a league leader in kick off return average! I do enjoy your take, but I have to disagree with this one
