Very grateful for your channel. With 52 years' experience in stills, the videos have helped me get comfortable with concepts and gear for filming iPhone video. It may be age-related, but at 76 I'm not crazy about the background noise (music?) or the agitated pace. I'll turn sound down and spend many happy hours learning here.

Haha, well, glad you’re enjoying the videos if not the music! :) Thanks for watching. We’re planning to do captions at some point for our videos, so that might help in the future. We’re pretty keen on the tunes though ourselves! 😎

Weird that DOF adapters are making a comeback in this instance. Back in the day there were lots of people working on all sorts focusing screens, using different lenses to flip the image, etc. It was a wild time but then the issues of vignetting, some chromatic aberration, etc, seem to still be a problem.

We shot extensively with Letus DOF adapters and Canon HDV cameras, so know a lot about them. Used vintage Nikkor glass mainly, but also had a Canon FD mount. Results looked great, but the main thing was remembering to turn the motor on for the ground glass - if you didn’t the image was covered in non-moving grain and unusable. Happened too often. Lol. Haven’t used the Beastgrip DOF yet, but sort of interested in trying one.

@@iphoneographers I had a similar setup but my camera was a Panny DVX100A. With all those other issues stated another one was the motor noise, especially if one had to spin it faster to get rid of the grain. Good times!

Definitely! We also used an HVX. Good times. :)

Thank you for the great review! Quick tip: You can move upper clamp jaw to higher position, so it will be easier to mount larger phones.

Thanks for a thorough review on the beast, I have looked at purchasing this mount in the past but comes with a hefty price tag..

It’s not cheap that’s for sure, but would say it’s pretty fairly priced for the quality you get. Thanks for watching!

Hi, nice review! I have a question does the beastgrip is only compatible with the beastgrip lenses or it works with the moment lenses to? Thank you!!!

You can put any lenses on it depending on how you build the rig. Very versatile and more or less universal.

A couple of questions. One, Beastgrip or gimbal? And two. How does the lens mount work with iPhone dual camera system?
@iphoneographers
6 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching! The Beastgrip and a gimbal are two different animals. If you’re looking for a camera cage to mount stuff to like mics or lights or lenses etc. it’s great. And it will stabilize your footage somewhat compared to just hand holding the phone. But it’s nothing like using a true gimbal like the Smooth 4 or Osmo Mobile. Those are motorized gimbals that do the stabilization work for you. But, they have low weight limits and so are limited to what you can put on the camera. One option is to get a Beastgrip and then also get a larger gimbal for DSLR sized cameras like a Zhiyun Crane 2 or similar. Then you can mount stuff on it and then also to the gimbal. As far as the Beastgrip and dual lenses... it allows you to adjust the lens mount by sliding it around. So you can easily position a 3rd party lens over the wide or tele on the phone.

I have 82mm filters, is there enough space to use a 37mm to 82mm step up ring? It kind of looks like it may hit those rails?
@iphoneographers

Haven’t tried an 82 although we have lots of 77mm and those work pretty well with a step up ring, albeit a tad bit bulky.

Is this rig is compatiblewith one plus 7t with added external lenses ? As i used some of lenses , they only work with primary lens not with wide and tele

Thank you and thanks for watching! We used to focus exclusively on iPhone related filmmaking, but over this last year we’ve tried to be more about “smartphone” filmmaking to include all our Android filmmaking friends, too. We are iOS users, so we don’t have an Android phone to show or test with, but are looking to change that. Interested particularly in Google Pixel 2, Samsung S9 and the upcoming RED Hydrogen. Long story short, while some of the apps and accessories we show are iOS specific, many of the techniques we demo are universal - even relatable to traditional filmmaking! And of course apps like Filmic Pro are cross platform, too. So we’re trying to include all aspects of mobile filmmaking going forward. 👍🏻
