As a Londoner with most of childhood in the West End and St James, I can always say that I loved to see the five Drum Majors of the Footguards in their 1650s State Dress of gold embroidered coats and aprons with the sunlight on them and the maces. Also I loved to see the Royal Marine Drum Majors with the drums positioned in pole position leading the band. This Guards Band is about 250 strong. Very nice to see.

I do say, Robert, that I am rather envious of your privilege to live in a great metropolis where such pomp and ceremony are common. I'm a displaced British citizen of 60 years in the US, well, at least that's how I refer to myself. What a thrill it must be for them to entertain thousands, wearing the red tunic and bearskin and performing in one of the greatest military ensembles ever assembled.

As Canadian I got to see massed bands of the Guard division doing beat of retreat with my mom. Also as ex Highlander with 48 th in Toronto. We used to have tattoo' day of warriors parade.1 yr Brits send both massed bands to the tattoo. See football filled pipes and drums and military band from all over the world was awesome

It "Normandy Veterans March" composed by C. North. It is a lively march that celebrates victorious young soldiers after liberating the European mainland. Could you imagine the band of HM Grenadier Guards blasting this on the streets of Paris in 1944? This has become one of my all-time favorite marches.

I feel sorry for shift workers trying to get some sleep during the day, living in one of those horrendously expensive apartments along the route of these "Musical Hoons" including rehearsals weeks before the actual event. Can't they just march and play only under that balcony, increasingly overloaded with members of the Royal Family ? I guess another reason for "Brexit" might be escaping European Union Laws regulating such noise pollution. I guess most of these dressed up guys are only volunteering to avoid mowing the lawn at home and performing other household chores listed up by nagging wives.

@@hughfranklin4002 No stress. It is natural. You are not very fair minded. Has it ever dawned on you, that some people love to live in such horrendously expensive apartments and to afford one of them, take up well paid night shift work, in the worst scenario even as prostitutes with these horrendously expensive apartments being used as under cover brothels ? Would you enjoy having your business disrupted by noisy marching bands ? Just to give you another example: Currently the Australian Football League is warning fans attending top grade Aussie Rules Games to keep the noise levels down or else they will be evicted from the stadiums. I guess it is implimented to prevent claims for hearing defects and nerve erosion. Time for the UK to catch up and reconsider the wellbeing of their citizens.
