o How will this new facility benefit USCB nursing students? By combining forces and pooling resources, we are fostering deeper connections between education and practice. That provides a better experience for our students.
o How is a simulation manikin used? The life-like manikins not only have accurate human anatomy and physiology, they can mimic patient symptoms, emotions and reactions, including talking to you and responding to simple questions, turning their heads, crying, giving birth to a baby, blinking their eyes and more.
They allow skills to be learned, practiced and refined in a realistic clinical setting where mistakes can be made without risking patient safety. All of this increases student confidence in performing clinical tasks, making clinical judgments, as well as communicating with patients and each other, and in the real world that translates to better patient outcomes.
o Why are simulated patient scenarios part of nurses’ training? Simulation is an important part of the learning process and adds value to the required clinical training hours for nursing students. Studies have demonstrated that simulation increases learning and develops clinical judgment that supports the transition to nursing practice following graduation.
o Why partner on this facility? A state-of-the art simulation program like this is resource intensive and requires a large footprint. By combining forces, we share the costs and space associated with a center while fostering deeper connections between education and practice that benefits students and working healthcare professionals. That creates a well-trained workforce to better the health of our community.
