The chicks absolutely LOVE ❤️ sweet potato vines. However, if you are new to chickens never give them regular potato vines which contain the toxin solanin. Sweet potatoes are actually part of the morning glory family, they do not contain solanin. Cheers, and happy homesteading!

@chris7197 Thank you. The chickens go crazy over those sweet potato vines. I haven't tries it but supposedly the new growth leaves on the vine can be sautéed and eaten lime spinach. Maybe I'll try it next spring. Thanks for watching.

Great additude. This is my 4th year. Still learning. Each year you get a wonderful gift from God.Its like you said there may come a time where it may become necessary. Try some peat and bone meal. Water in the morning. You are correct about the sun they grow better, hopefully next year it will be brighter. Its also very rewarding. My Beauregard are 130 today. Zone 8b. I harvested some from a different container last week they were an average size a few small ones. No splits. We had extreme heat all summer. I watered 4 times a week. I have slowed down to 2 day's. Still learning. Very good video. Enjoy your harvest.

Thank you for all the suggestions. You are the second person to recommend watering in the morning. We are zone 7b and our July stayed around 90F all month during the days. As uou said every harvest is a blessing. I hope you continue having many.

To avoid splitting, don't water your sweet potatoes.on midday or afternoon where soil us hot. Do it in the morning. And don't water em everyday, because upon harvest you found only roots and no yields. Let your bed rest for a season. Don't rely compost from stores because I believe they are very sketchy. Make a diy compst. Americans like to plant their sweet potatoes on slips while we here in the Pacific plant it by their vines itself. We cut it around 10 inches long, two stalks each hole. Pardon mate for my broken English. Spanish is our second tounge here in the Pacific islands.

Thank you so much for the help! These are all great tips. And no worries about the English, I wouldn't have known if you didn't mention it.
